Wanderu is a ground travel search platform that allows people to find and book the best deals on inter-city bus and train travel.
Either online at Wanderu.com or through the free Wanderu app for iOS and Android, travelers can get the most convenient and cost-effective itineraries across numerous bus and train lines in North America & Europe.
Wanderu’s partners include some of the largest ground travel companies in the world, including Amtrak, Greyhound, Megabus, Boltbus, Peter Pan Bus Lines, VIA Rail Canada, Deutsche Bahn, FlixBus, Grupo Senda and Trailways of New York, among many others.
Using Wanderu is easy and, best of all, free! All you have to do is type in your departure and arrival locations, as well as the desired dates for your trip, and Wanderu instantly searches through hundreds of schedules, routes and carriers to get you exactly where you need to go.
If you are looking for a one-way trip, enter a date only in the “Departure” field.
If you are looking for a round trip, enter your desired travel dates in both the “Departure” and “Return” fields. Keep in mind, however, that each leg of your trip is ticketed separately, so if you’re looking for a round trip, you will need to complete two checkout processes.
Wanderu is a true point to point search. You can enter a city, address or even a point of interest and we will find all the nearby stations. Have a friend’s place to visit or a favorite restaurant? Just type it in and leave the rest to us. After you have chosen your preferred travel option, you can select the number of passengers that will be traveling before heading to the checkout form.
Wanderu covers hundreds of routes in North America, including more than 90% of the United States that is reachable by ground, as well as the majority of Canada and key destinations throughout Mexico. In addition, you can use Wanderu to book bus and train tickets throughout Europe, including countries like Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, among other places. You can find a list of all routes available on Wanderu here.
Wanderu is growing everyday and we do our best to serve your travel plans. If you have routes or carriers you would like to see on Wanderu, please contact us.
Sorry about that. We are constantly expanding the coverage we have on Wanderu, both in the number of stations and carriers that we list. Please let us know what route you are unable to find trip options for and we will work on finding a partner that covers it, so you can travel for cheap and hassle-free.
The location of each station is right below the city and the departure/arrival time in the search results. You can click “Directions” to see it on a map. There, you also have the option to enter your final destination (such as airport or hotel) and get directions.
Enter the cities you would like to depart from and arrive at as you normally would when searching for a trip in the U.S.
Don’t be bummed but some bus carriers only release schedules 6-8 weeks in advance. Want to see your options? Just search your trip within the two month period and remember that prices go up as you get closer to the travel date.
No, Wanderu does not sell or issue tickets directly. We aggregate all of the best bus and train carriers into an easy-to-use search platform and, once you select your preferred bus or train trip, we link you to your selected carrier to buy directly from them. This way, if you ever have questions about your ticket or need to change the ticket, the carrier will service you directly. This also means that when you buy a ticket, it is covered by the terms & conditions of the carrier conducting the trip.
Unfortunately, since Wanderu doesn’t issue the tickets, we can’t cancel your trip for you. If you need to change or cancel your trip, you will need to contact the bus or train carrier that issued your tickets directly.
Your tickets are issued and e-mailed to you directly by the bus or train company conducting the trip you selected. Please allow at least 20 minutes from your reservation to receive the tickets. If it has been more than 20 minutes and you still haven’t received your tickets, please check your Spam folder as they can sometimes get filtered there. Still nothing? Sometimes the e-mail provider filters out some e-mails beyond the Spam folder. If that happens, please keep reading below.
Do you have the confirmation number that you received after successfully completing your reservation? If yes, just dial the number of the bus company that your reserved your trip with and give them your confirmation number. You can find a list of customer support numbers here.
Don’t have your confirmation number? Don’t worry, we can help you locate it. Please contact us and provide us with as much information about the booking as possible, including the point of departure, destination, date and time of travel, date and time of booking (at least approximate), total cost and number of tickets. We will do our best to track down your confirmation and get you on your way.
Accepted payment methods are determined by each individual carrier as they are the ones processing your payment. To reserve tickets found on Wanderu, you will need a debit or credit card.
If you would like to buy your ticket with cash, you can do that at the bus/train station but keep in mind that prices are usually significantly higher when you buy at the station and you run the risk of a sold-out bus.
Most carriers do accept international credit cards. However, make sure you enter all the billing information exactly as it appears in your bank or credit card company’s records to avoid processing delays.
You can reserve a ticket for another person without a problem. Just enter their information in the passenger fields and your payment information in the billing fields.

We’re sorry to hear that you had trouble completing your reservation. The most common reason for the reservation to fail is when the credit card information such as billing name, address, phone number or expiration and CSV numbers associated with the credit card don’t match what is on file with the credit card company. It’s no reason for concern, just double check all of your information before submitting your reservation again.
If you see a charge on your account from the bus company but the reservation did not complete, don’t be concerned. Some bus companies and their payment processors will place a hold on your account for the amount of the ticket price while they tried to complete the failed reservation. Though it might appear as a charge on your bank account, it is in fact a hold, which means the money has not left the account and the bank will remove the hold after a short period. If you don’t see the hold removed from your bank account within 2 weeks you should contact the bus carrier directly.
Most bus and train companies DON’T allow pets on board. Sorry =( The one exception is of course if your pet is a certified service animal. To check a specific carrier’s pet policy, please contact them directly.
Carriers’ policies vary and are up to each company to set. The most common policy in the industry is one piece of luggage that you can check and store under the bus and one piece of luggage that you can take with you on the bus. Of course, each company might allow more or less baggage and you should double check directly with the specific company for their luggage policy by contacting them.
