The 6 Most Romantic Cities to Visit for Valentine’s Day

Want to snuggle up with your sweetie on a Valentine’s vacation? Here are six of the most romantic cities you can visit to celebrate your love!

Newport, RI

Though the City-By-The-Sea is is known as a summery beach town, in the winter, Newport transforms into a cozy romantic haven. Also, because not as many people visit Newport in the winter, you’ll have plenty of places for some alone time with your Valentine. The Cliff Walk is a highlight of a trip to Newport, and it is still beautiful in winter, even if you have to bundle up for your secluded stroll by the sea. That just means you’ll have to cuddle up close with your Valentine to keep warm! You can also tour the historical mansions of Newport – The Breakers, The Elms, and Marble House – where the lavish decor and intricate architecture will definitely set the mood for a romantic evening. The Dining Room at Castle Hill Inn is the place to splurge for a fancy meal, or, if casual is more your style as a couple, you can have a delicious dinner at the tavern at the The Black Pearl, a Newport institution.

How to get there: Book a ticket to Newport from Boston, New York City, and many other cities around the Northeast!

Charleston, SC

The Southern charm of Charleston is famously romantic and the perfect place to spend Valentine’s Day. With cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages, live oaks, and antebellum architecture, Charleston embodies romance. For a simple yet lovely way to celebrate your love, grab delicious local snacks and a bottle of wine from Caviar & Bananas, then head to the waterfront to enjoy each other’s company in this park with incredible views. Or have a more decadent meal at The Obstinate Daughter, where both the food and decor capture the character of Charleston. Right on the water on Sullivan’s Island, you’ll want to linger over your meal to appreciate the view.

How to get there: Book a ticket to Charleston from Atlanta, OrlandoWashington, D.C., and plenty of other places!

San Antonio, TX

With the winding River Walk as its showpiece, San Antonio will make you fall even more in love while you’re in the heart of Texas. Wander along the River Walk, taking in the natural scenery of the flowers and cypress trees, then have a romantic meal at one of the many fantastic restaurants with patios along the river’s edge. You can also take a ride on a river barge with your Valentine’s Day date. Another great spot to explore together is Pearl, the new district centered around the old Pearl Brewery building. Although beers are no longer brewed here, if you and your true love are also beer lovers, you will find plenty of craft beer at the restaurants in the complex. Plus, a farmers market takes place in the neighborhood on the weekend, which is always a great place to take a date. For even more romance, make your way deeper into Texas Hill Country and spend some quality time together exploring the wineries, restaurants, and shops in the lovely German town of Fredericksburg.

How to get there: Book a ticket to San Antonio from Austin, Dallas, Houston, and many other cities around the Southwest!

Milwaukee, WI

You might think a Midwestern city known for beer and cheese wouldn’t be the place for a romance, but you’d be wrong. For a unique Valentine’s Day experience, take your date to the planetarium at the Milwaukee Public Museum and see the stars in more than just each other’s eyes. At Romancing the Stars, you’ll get a red rose and a box of chocolates as you learn all about the “constellations of love.” Instead of candlelight dinner, go cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or hiking along candlelit trails at St. Croix Falls, just outside the city. This lovely evening takes place on February 9th, so you can still have that romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day, too. And you can savor Valentine’s Day riverside at Boone and Crockett while sipping some creative cocktails.

How to get there: Book a ticket to Milwaukee from Chicago, Minneapolis, Grand Rapids, and many more Midwestern locations!

Santa Barbara, CA

Just up the Pacific Coast from Los Angeles, Santa Barbara is an ideal spot for a romantic Valentine’s Day getaway. Walk along the beach, check out Stearns Wharf, and stroll down State Street to enjoy this lovely city together. Make your way up to the clock tower atop the Santa Barbara County Courthouse for a panoramic view of Santa Barbara and its serene surroundings, which will be extra special to see with your special someone. Cheers to love with a tour of the many wineries around Santa Barbara. Quite a few are located right downtown, so the two of you can walk around at your own pace, or you can join a wine trail tour and explore beyond the city. Also, just outside of Santa Barbara is the quaint Dutch village of Solvang, which would definitely make for a memorable Valentine’s Day.

How to get there: Book a ticket to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, as well as other cities near Southern California!

Vancouver, BC

If you and your lover also love the outdoors, then you’ll want Vancouver to be your Valentine! You can take a romantic stroll through Stanley Park, which is so big that you’ll definitely be able to find your own secluded spaces for some alone time as you walk. Then stop at the Tea House at Ferguson Point for a drink or dinner as the sunsets over the ocean outside. And if you want to visit a city that has been named Canada’s most romantic many times, you can take a day trip to Victoria, on Vancouver Island, via shuttle and ferry.
