Before becoming a town, North Petherton was known for being the largest village in England. Despite its small stature, the town has been a significant settlement throughout English history since the Saxon era.
The Bridgewater and Taunton Canal runs through the small town, offering tranquil walks along the towpath and opportunities to see much of the local wildlife. This path also features part of the Somerset Space Walk: a route with sculptures of the planets displayed in proportion to their size and distance from each other.
