Amtrak Maple Leaf

Pros: Amtrak is almost always clean, efficient, and on time, and also has friendly people working on the train. Cons: I wish Amtrak would tell travelers not to listen to their music without headphones or speak on their cell phone for lengthy periods of time. Tips: Other travelers should not speak on their cells phones loudly and for a long period of time. Also, they should not listen to their music without headphones. Travelers with screaming children might make more of an effort to quiet them down.

Amtrak Empire Service

Pros: Train left on time. Cons: Train arrived an hour late mostly due to delays getting off the train. Tips: Give yourself 2 hours extra buffer when you arrive because the train could be an hour late.

Amtrak Maple Leaf

Pros: I did not have to make the drive by myself from Poughkeepsie to Buffalo. It was relaxing, comfortable, and incredibly scenic with the leaves changing colors in early October. I’d spend much less money driving, but the train ride was totally worth it! I’ll definitely do this again. Cons: Give passengers a list of train etiquette :) People should know to speak in their ‘library’ voices when on the train. Tips: Use your ‘inside the library’ voice please. Bring headsets so others do not need to listen to your videos or conversations. Don’t have heated discussions on the phone or negotiate business. What is the matter with people?
