Pros: This retro train was built in the '50s and is a step back in time that is ON TIME. We had trouble getting connecting transport in Kamloops as the local companies claim that the train is unreliable. Apparently this was the case a couple of years ago but no longer true. In fact our train arrived early. The dome car is fabulous. Cons: The rail staff do their best to contain the behaviours of locals who take this cheaper form of transport. They are constantly hassling for the train to stop so they can have a cigarette. With the legalising of marijuana in Canada (we didn't know this!), rail staff were on the hunt for the individual who smoked a joint in our toilet. The language and drinking was akin to an AFL football game...a little ugly. Tips: If you are after beautiful scenery, don't want to drive or would like to catch a glimpse of the diversity of lifestyles (see TV series Letterkenny) in Canada then this is for you.

Kamloops North is a VIA Rail Station off of the Yellowhead Highway. The station includes a small building with restrooms and seating, plus limited parking in the lot outside. The station is in a fairly industrial area of Kamloops, so there are no restaurants or other amenities close to the station. From Kamloops, VIA Rail trains head to Vancouver, Jasper, Edmonton, and beyond.
