13 October 2023- Visiting family

Amtrak Northeast Regional

Pros: Arrived on time, comfortable and relaxing ride, staff very pleasant and welcoming. I liked cleaningness of the train; staff collected trash often. I also admired how the staff although stops were being announced, they would go around to passengers, whom previously had questions regarding their destination or seemed uncertain, staff would go to such passengers and personally inform them of their upcoming stop and directed them to which doors to utilize to exit. That was so wonderful and made me feel safer, more comfortable. Cons: On this particular trip I honestly didn't notice anything that needed to be improved. Tips: Purchase tickets way in advance for lower prices because there are always great deals available at Wanderu if you don't wait till last minute as I do but even last minute the price and ease of purchase is great. Although at times its disappointing when the price shown is that updated, you find out when selected and you will get a notification that price has increased. Prices should always be updated.

Amtrak Northeast Regional

Pros: Great staff-helpful and friendly to newbies. Cons: The bathrooms were pretty bad-urine on the floor, garbage overflowing, etc. Maybe needs to be checked more often since people clearly don’t understand the concept of shared facilities.

City Information

Providence

Though some might say that it is overshadowed by nearby Boston, Providence is an interesting destination on its own. A quaint college town with a deep historical value, Providence allows fans of U.S. history to marvel at historic buildings such as the ones on Benefit Street, which boasts the highest concentration of Colonial houses. As you stroll around the streets of Providence at night, don’t forget to take a detour to WaterFire, a sculpture project that features bonfires along the rivers of Providence. Accompanying the bonfires are the sounds of ceremonial gongs and various music programs, which brighten up the night. For those seeking a unique cultural experience, the Federal Hill quarter sits among the most famous Little Italian neighborhoods, and it features some of the best Italian restaurants in town.

The staple dish of Providence is oysters, which are not difficult to find in the city. However, if you can endure a short drive, Matunuck Oyster Bar, an oyster restaurant located 40 miles south of South Kingstown, provides some of the freshest and most delicious oysters around. Some other notable establishments include Birch, Oberlin, and Tallulah’s Taqueria.

The Providence airport is located in nearby Warwick which is only a 6 miles’ drive from the city.
