Taking its name from the many university academics that used to hike this route for the solitude and views to inspire them, this route rambles up the southern side of the Heiligenberg. With exotic vegetation and a temperate climate during the summer months, it's easy to think that you've accidentally walked all the way to the Mediterranean.
Although Heidelberg does not have an airport, the Mannheim Airport is under 15km away, and it's easy to take a train from Mannheim to Heidelberg. Intercity bus service provides transportation to Heidelberg from many domestic and international destinations. Konstanz is a city in southern Germany along the Swiss border. The Rhine River splits the city in half right before it feeds into Lake Constance, and this scenic setting makes Konstanz a popular leisure town in Germany. The historic Old Town quarter, unscathed by bombs in World War II, is remarkably preserved, with heavy Swiss influence. The Niederburg district is particularly alluring for visitors, as it is the oldest part of Konstanz. Some of the buildings here were built over 700 years ago.
