29 March 2024- Vacation

Amtrak Northeast Regional

Pros: It was a much better way to travel as opposed to renting a car. Cons: There were a couple of children who were watching videos on their devices. The volume was turned up and it was miserable to have to listen to their cartoons. I would implement the rule that is on airplanes and demand that they must have headphones. Tips: Choose the quiet car.

1 November 2023- Regular commuter

Amtrak Northeast Regional

Pros: Quiet car was quiet. Cons: Sat in the quiet car as I usually do and it was extremely cold. The Weather had just turned from warm to chilly (it was the day after Halloween) and it was cold outside but felt like the air conditioning was on. Tips: Use the hot spot on your mobile phone because the wifi is always spotty.

Madalina

3 October 2023- Visiting friends

Amtrak Northeast Regional

Pros: I had 2 seats because there was not so many people traveling and I had time and space to sleep a little bit. Cons: The price could be more cheaper and the charger for phone could be improved but besides it it was pretty good. Tips: just make sure you have a pillow because the roads are sometime not very good and it will be better for you.

City Information

Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg, one of America's most well-known living history towns, is not a replica or a collection of structures from other locations. Instead, from 1705 until 1779, this was the capital of the colony (and eventually the state) of Virginia. It's now a museum that recreates bygone periods in their original setting and includes many of the historic buildings. Others have been painstakingly reconstructed or repaired at their original locations. Actors (or maybe time travelers?) wander around the reconstructed area dressed in 18th-century garb and going about their daily lives.

But Williamsburg isn't only for history nerds, and the Revolution isn't the only thing to see. The city's tourist attractions are two renowned museums of art, Busch Gardens theme park, and a water park.

In terms of transport, buses, trains, and airports are available. Buses come from major cities like Newark, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, New York, and even Houston via Greyhound. For train tickets, the Amtrak Northeast Regional connects from Washington D.C., Richmond, St Louis, and more. The main train and bus station is Williamsburg Transportation Center. Williamsburg International Airport is only 17 miles away from downtown Williamsburg. Other airports, such as Norfolk International Airport and Richmond International Airport, are options but a bit further away.

One of the reasons Washington, DC is among the best destinations to visit with your family is because it is home to so many world-famous museums, including the Smithsonians – 16 museums scattered across the District, most of which are open every day of the week, and even better, every single one is free.

D.C. is not just about politics and museums, though. The city’s active nightlife fittingly ranks it among the biggest party hubs in the country. Head to the vibrant Dupont Circle neighborhood to check out some of the finest restaurants that the nation’s capital has to offer, or join a food tour of Georgetown to get a taste of the area’s culture along with its cuisine.

Nested between Virginia and Maryland, Washington, D.C. is a key transportation hub with three nearby airports and several bus and train stations.
