About Amtrak Missouri River Runner

Amtrak Missouri River Runner is a daily passenger train service operated by Amtrak across Missouri. A one-way journey all the way through the route lasts just under six hours, taking in eight intermediate station stops, including the state capital, Jefferson City.

The 283-mile full journey was named the Missouri River Runner because the eastern half of its route between Jefferson City and St. Louis runs alongside the Missouri River, providing excellent views for most of the trip.

As with many – but not all Amtrak services – passengers who choose to cross the state by rail can enjoy comfortable seats with leg room substantially more spacious and comfortable than most airlines, even with a standard coach class ticket. Business-class seating is also available in dedicated sections of the Missouri River Runner, providing even higher levels of comfort. Trains also boast onboard WiFi and an optional café service with food and drinks.

Wanderu has been an official partner of Amtrak since 2015, making Wanderu the one-stop shop for all Amtrak services- including the Amtrak Missouri River Runner. Get the cheapest train tickets available on Wanderu!

St Louis to Kansas City

Pros: It was scenic and comfortable ! I would live to do it again. Cons: I had a passenger behind me with a heavy chronic cough. I felt like germs were being spewed everywhere. Passengers that have cold symptoms should be required to wear a mask. Tips: Make sure you bring plenty to snack on , and something to entertain yourself with.

November 21, 2023- Visiting family

Kansas City to Jefferson City

Pros: Safe way to travel and avoid highways and bad drivers. Cons: I think a ramp instead of stairs getting in and out of the train for elderly folks, or those with physical disabilities would be very beneficial. Along with the ease of moving luggage would be fantastic. Ramp over the stairs instead of replacing the stairs could be done.
