Designated as a heritage station, the VIA Rail Station at Kitchener is a one-story brick structure originally built in 1897. It is located on a narrow strip on the outer edge of the commercial center of Kitchener. Alterations to the original structure in the 20th century led to the current simple, horizontal design. VIA Rail trains depart from Kitchener's station heading to destinations including Toronto and Montreal. Local GO Transit and Grand River Transit buses stop near the station. Some well-regarded hotels within 5 km of the station include Comfort Inn, Waterloo, the Delta Waterloo, and the Inn of Waterloo. Brockville, also known as the City of the 1000 Islands, is one of the oldest railway hubs in Canada. In 2009, VIA Rail built a new terminal to replace the historic 1872 Brockville station. The new station is located on Perth Street near downtown Brockville. Since the sweeping renovation, the station has been running trains from Toronto to Ottawa and Montreal. At the wheelchair-accessible station, you will find an indoor waiting area, restrooms, and telephones. Outside, there is an ample amount of parking space available. The station opens 30 minutes before the first train arrives for the day and closes 30 minutes after the last train departs. However, working hours may change due to unforeseen circumstances like local events, holidays, and extreme weather.
