The city was founded in the 12th century, and visitors can see many traces of its medieval era in the existing town. However, the most well-known attraction in Bayreuth is the Margravial Opera House, a Baroque theater and UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can also learn about Wagner at his former residence, now the Richard Wagner Museum.
Bayreuth features many more historic buildings to explore, notably the Hermitage (Old Palace) and the Neue Schloss (New Palace). The Court Garden near the New Palace is an especially scenic place to relax after a busy day of sightseeing.

Erfurt is the capital and largest city in the German state of Thuringia.
