Pros: Hadn't ridden a train in about 20 years. Loved the experience and am planning a longer trip soon. Cons: This train was very full, so , understandably, the train was a bit dirty. Not horrible, but concerning. Bathroom I visited was full of trash and dirty.
Amtrak Southwest Chief is the one and only train line which connects Trinidad to Las Vegas. Furthermore, there is only one train per day, so you will have to plan your travel around this limited availability. On the other hand, you won't have to spend a ton of time comparing a bunch of possible options.

The Southwest Chief is a passenger train operated by America’s largest train service, Amtrak. The full route travels over 2,200 miles from Chicago to Los Angeles, which takes over 43 hours. The train covers the stretch from Trinidad to Las Vegas in about 2 hours and 47 minutes. In addition to standard Coach Class seats, the Southwest Chief offers several sleeper cabin options on longer journeys. Amtrak’s Southwest Chief is consistently ranked as one of the most scenic train routes in America, thanks to the stunning views of the Painted Desert, the Red Cliffs of Sedona, and the Grand Canyon you’ll see from your train window.
Trains departing from Trinidad to Las Vegas tend to have the most passengers on Friday. With higher demand ticket prices also tend to be higher on Friday. If you are trying to snag a cheap train tickets or just want an emptier train you'll have better luck by booking travel departing on Friday as the least number of people tend to travel then.
Most days, there is only one train which leaves Trinidad at 8:00am and arrives in Las Vegas around 2 hours later.
