Founded in 1636 as the first Springfield in North America, this city sits on the eastern bank of the Connecticut River in Massachusetts. Visitors can reach Savannah by bus via service from several different bus carriers, most of which operate out of the bus terminal at 610 W Oglethorpe Ave. The local Amtrak station takes on the Palmetto, and the Silver Meteor and Silver Star trains. The principal airport in the city, the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, sits 8 miles northwest of the Savannah Historic District, and it also provides quick access to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

Union Station is an iconic landmark in Springfield that just finished renovations in 2016—which means you get the historic charm plus modern AC. Original features include the impressive entrance clock, wooden train schedule, and terrazzo flooring. You might stop at Union Station on an Amtrak itinerary via the Northeast Regional line. Or, if you're commuting locally, you may transfer to the CTrail Hartford Line. Greyhound and Peter Pan provide bus services to the area as well, with connections across New England.
