Amenities on National Express

Most long-distance buses come fully equipped with WiFi access and many coaches have power outlets at each passenger seat. National Express believes in comfortable travel, so there’s plenty of legroom, comfy seats, air conditioning, and as you’d expect, an onboard restroom and washroom.

No food or drinks are served on board and passengers are encouraged to bring their own refreshments for the journey.

Does National Express have WiFi?

National Express is rolling out WiFi to all its coaches, but the process is not yet complete. If this is important to you, please check whether the bus you have chosen will have WiFi when booking.

National Express Mobile Tickets

National Express tickets should be printed out prior to your journey. On making your booking, National Express emails your tickets to you. Please select the printer-friendly version when printing your hard copy. M-tickets are available and only need to be shown to National Express personnel on your mobile phone, but the carrier warns that, if your ticket can’t be displayed, you will not be allowed on the bus.

Seat Selection on National Express

You are not guaranteed any specific seats when booking National Express tickets. However, you can be sure that there will be a seat available when you book in advance.

National Express Luggage Policy

You may bring two luggage items weighing no more than 20 kg (44 lbs) each and one hand luggage item that can fit into the overhead racks. Hold luggage bags may not exceed 70 x 30 x 45 cm (27.5 x 11.8 x 17.7 in). You can bring extra luggage, but National Express will charge you an extra fee and it will only be accepted if there is room in the hold for it. All luggage must be locked and tagged by passengers. Your name and, if possible, telephone number should be clearly marked on your luggage tags.

National Express Pet Policy

Only fully trained service animals are allowed on National Express Buses. Prior arrangements must be made if you need to travel with a service animal.

Children traveling on National Express

National Express will not transport children under the age of 14 unless they are accompanied by a responsible person who is 16 years old or older. Children under the age of three travel free provided they are accompanied by someone over the age of 16 who has paid a full fare.

Most National Express buses are equipped with booster seats for small children.

IDs and Documentation Required on National Express

National Express tickets are issued in the name of each traveler and are not transferable. You will, therefore, be required to show proof of identity when boarding National Express coaches. It is also wisest to print your ticket, even if you have an M-ticket, since you will not be able to board the bus if you are unable to display it on demand for whatever reason.

Accessibility on National Express

Most coaches have full wheelchair access, but if you want to travel seated in your wheelchair, it may not measure more than 120 x 70 cm (47.2 x 17.7 in), and it must have points of attachment for safety reasons. Wheelchairs traveling as hold luggage may not weigh more than 20 kg (44 lbs) and should be fully foldable. Motorized scooters for disabled people must, likewise, weigh less than 20 kg (44 lbs) and they must be disassembled prior to loading. You should talk to National Express travel consultants at least 36 hours before your trip to ensure that your needs can be accommodated.

Ticket Refund, Cancellation and Change Policy

It is possible to cancel or change National Express tickets and receive a refund, provided you do so more than 72 hours before departure. Administrative fees are charged for changes and cancellations. Certain National Express ticket types do not allow for refunds or changes. Check the terms associated with the National Express tickets you book.

National Express Bicycle Policy

Foldable or dismantled bicycles that are wrapped in protective packaging are allowed, but if you have more than two hold luggage items in total, National Express reserves the right to refuse your luggage if there is insufficient hold space and will charge you for transport of an extra luggage item if the bicycle is accepted.

National Express Airport Service

London’s Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airports are all served by National Express. Heathrow is a sprawling airport but National Express stops at all terminals. You can also get National Express coaches to or from Manchester and Cardiff airports and there is a direct bus route between Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.
