Indianapolis to New Haven train

Indianapolis, or often referred to as just Indy, is the capital and largest city in the state of Indiana. While the city attracts thousands of visitors from the area every month, it is during Memorial Day weekend that Indianapolis becomes the place to be for over 300,000 race car fans from all over the globe. The reason for that is the Indianapolis 500, an annual automobile race and the world’s largest single day sporting event, taking place at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

If you’re not in Indianapolis for Memorial Day weekend, you can learn about the race and see a rare collection of 500 Indy race vehicles and memorabilia at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. And while you’re on a history streak, stop by at one of the many war memorials found throughout the city, like the Soldiers and Sailors monument, the World War II memorial, and the Indiana War Memorial where you must check out the Shrine Room for a stunning one-of-a-kind experience.

Sitting on the mouth of the Quinnipiac River of Connecticut, New Haven has been the home of the esteemed Yale University for more than 300 years. The quaint college town, with its cultural significance, has long been a highly-rated destination for culturally-inclined travelers. The first thing to do in New Haven is to visit the Yale campus, which was designed by famous architects such as Eero Saarinen and Frank O. Gehry. Don’t forget to check out the university’s visitor center as well, which houses impressive historical displays. New Haven’s special pizza, also known as “apizza,” is a must-try when you are in town, and the best place to try this delicacy is at Pepe’s, its birthplace. The central hub of transportation in the city is Union Station, where travelers can catch Amtrak trains or buses by Greyhound and Flixbus for intercity transits. Air services are handled by the Tweed New Haven Regional Airport, located 3 miles east of the business district.
