Amtrak California Zephyr
Pros: As regards the train car, the ceiling needs cleaning, and there is a huge accumulation of dust above the windows in the narrow space. It appears as though the ceiling panels are removable and with the dust observed it might be the train car needs a cleaning that is beyond the normal. The seats, windows, floor were clean. The seat upholstery looked nice. What I liked about the trip is that the depot and Chicago's Union Station have space so that one is not nearly shoulder to shoulder with other passengers. I chose to travel by train because it was more peaceful. I also took train spring 2024 from E Lansing, MI to Chicago. I booked through TravelU because the Amtrack web site is not friendly to obtain information on schedules and routes prior to booking. Certainly the web site could be made as easy to use as is that of TravelU. I am planning more trips and would like to obtain travel points. The Amtrack has lots of blurb about the advantages but the location of directions to sign up are not as forthcoming. I spent 45 minutes and still could not locate the "sign-up". An Amtrack employee suggested I phone. I will do that but I really just wanted to sign up on line. This questionair has an outdated question prior to this one. Since my most recent travel was Nov. 5 this date is not in the coronavirus pandemic. I did not travel by any means of public transportation during that time. Cons: As regards the train car, the ceiling needs cleaning, and there is a huge accumulation of dust above the windows in the narrow space. It appears as though the ceiling panels are removable and with the dust observed it might be the train car needs a cleaning that is beyond the normal. The seats, windows, floor were clean. That was a disappointment. Tips: Relax, enjoy the ride, watch the scenery.
