The Northeast Regional is a passenger rail service operated by Amtrak, the largest train travel provider in America. The train route connects 54 cities in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. Northeast Regional trains run between Boston, MA and Virginia Beach, VA, with stops at several key destinations along the East Coast, including Providence, Hartford, New York City, and Washington D.C.

As the more affordable of the two main train lines that connect New York City with Boston and D.C. (the other one being Amtrak’s premium and faster Acela service), the Northeast Regional is the busiest and most popular of all Amtrak routes. Trains run multiple times per day in either direction, transporting over 20,000 passengers on a daily basis. Pros: Easy check in process with a QR code for the ticket. Bus left on time and arrived on time. Passengers were about their business. Cons: The seats recline quite a bit so, I was not able to work on my iPad as the person in front of me was just shy of being on my lap once I had my small bag on my lap on which I attempted to do work. If you are a big person, next to a big person or have exceptionally long legs you may be challenged or touching the entire ride, which I'm not a big fan of but understand this is not a comfy ride. It's a cost and time efficient ride. Tips: This is not a luxury ride. It's a get to your destination ride. There was an outlet but I did not find it until I was almost to my destination. I'd do it again if I needed to. I did not know if there was wifi. I did look and was not sure because most of what I saw were private, so, I opted not to try to log in.

Amtrak Northeast Regional Cancellation Policy

All Amtrak Northeast Regional tickets can be cancelled for a full refund within the first 24 hours after purchase. If more than 24 hours have passed, the cancellation policy and change fee structure for Amtrak bookings depend on the type of fare you purchased:

Saver Fare tickets: A 25% fee applies for any changes. If you cancel the trip, you will receive an eVoucher worth 75% of the original ticket price.

Value Fare tickets: No change fees and fully refundable up to 15 or more days before departure. If cancelled less than 14 days before departure, a 25% cancellation fee applies.

Flexible, Business and Premium Fare tickets: No change fees and fully refundable if cancelled or changed before departure.

Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable after the train has departed, so be sure to make your updates as soon as possible if your travel plans change.
