About Amtrak Vermonter

The Vermonter is an Amtrak passenger train that connects St. Albans, VT to Washington, D.C. by way of New York City, with stops in a total of 10 cities. The train line provides easy access to several towns across Vermont where visitors can go skiing or snowboarding at world-famous winter resorts like Killington and Sugarbush, or simply enjoy the fresh air and unique nature of the Green Mountain National Forest.

The Vermonter has been in operation since 1995 when it replaced Amtrak’s Montrealer line. On average, the service carries about 100,000 passengers per year. Depending on your departure city and destination, the price of a one-way train ticket for Amtrak’s Vermonter line can vary from PLN 18.94 to PLN 905.36.

Vermonter trains pass through several towns in western Massachusetts, as well as major cities like Philadelphia and Baltimore. On average, the full train journey from northern Vermont to the nation's capital takes a little under 13 hours, and is renowned for the unique scenic views that the train presents as it passes through the Green Mountains and the Berkshires. In New York or D.C., you can transfer onto several other Amtrak lines that travel inland or further down the East Coast, including the Capitol Limited, the Pennsylvanian, or the Cardinal.

Aboard the Vermonter, passengers can enjoy free WiFi, power outlets at every seat and extra legroom. In each car, there are also several four-seat areas with tables in the middle where you can face and interact with other travelers. You can also grab a bite to eat or enjoy a refreshing beverage from the train’s café.

Amtrak has been an official Wanderu partner since 2015. Thanks to that, you can find and compare all Vermonter train schedules, and book cheap train tickets with ease on Wanderu. As always, there are no additional fees for booking your train trip on Wanderu. We just make it faster and more convenient.

There was plenty of seating and overhead storage available. There seemed to be plenty of food options as well, though it was my partner who went to purchase food. One of the conductors let passengers know if their stop was coming up, which I thought was very considerate...There was plenty of seating and overhead storage available. Pros: I got attention from the people I went to to ask. The very kindly employee helped me with my luggage and took me to the wagon. Cons: You don't let homeless people pass. Tips: Let's continue to be nice to each and every one of us. Pros: I got attention from the people I went to to ask. The very kindly employee helped me with my luggage and took me to the wagon. Yes, Amtrak Vermonter offers WiFi on their trains. Although most trips with Amtrak Vermonter will have WiFi as advertised, some trains might not come equipped with WiFi and onboard WiFi can lose its connection in rural areas. We recommend you bring a book or download a movie just to play it safe. Amtrak Vermonter WiFi is generally best used for surfing the web, checking emails and chatting with friends; you shouldn’t count on the WiFi to binge watch your favorite show.
