Pros: It was a last minute emergency, I need to get to Alburquerque as my mom was taken to a hospital in the middle of their cross-country trip. Always thought the train was more or as expensive than a plane but I got such an amazing deal and I was able to travel overnight and be with my parents the next morning. Faster and less expensive than a flight and SOOOOO much easier. We decided 2 hours before the train departed that I would be going and I was able to get to my house, pack a bag and get to the train station and get to my track with 40 minutes to spare. You could NEVER do that with flying. The conductors/attendants ALL seemed to like their jobs, they were helpful and friendly and I listened to a few of their interactions and they were so attentive to each unique question/request being thrown at them. Cons: The restrooms on my train could use some attention. They got the job done but I didn’t fee they were super clean and just seemed old. Tips: Bring blankets and pillows. Bring snacks and food though the food car on my train was such a highlight. Don’t forget your plug in addition to your usb cord—they didn’t have usb outlets only regular plug outlets. Didn’t check to see if they had WiFi on board? And there was plenty of room for luggage—overhead next to your seat or large luggage bins upon entry to the train. I was super impressed with train travel and can’t wait to plan a trip with my family as I know my kids will LOVE the adventure!!
