About Amtrak Adirondack
Amtrak Adirondack is a cross-border international rail service linking New York City with Montreal in Canada. It travels via Albany, the capital of New York state.
Travelling through the Hudson Valley, across the eastern edge of the Adirondack Mountains (which give the service its name), and the Lake Champlain region, Amtrak Adirondack completes the 381-mile journey in ten hours. The trip includes customs and immigration checks at the Canadian border – so don't forget your passport!
Amtrak Adirondack has been operating since 1974 and carries approximately 130,000 passengers yearly. The train hits 18 different cities during its 68 daily trips, with all but three of them – St. Lambert, Quebec, and Montreal – in New York state.
The ride is very comfortable with generous seat widths and legroom, an onboard café service, power sockets for passenger use, and complimentary WiFi- plus gorgeous views of the Hudson Valley.

Amtrak Adirondack passenger reviews
Pros It was a smooth ride Cons The bathrooms needs a overall, meaning updating to maybe get that smell out or they need to ne cleaned more often Tips Bring snacks but I found the food prices really reasonable
Pros Overall, it was a good trip. The staff was friendly, patient, and responsive to questions, which made the journey more comfortable. The bathrooms were clean for most of the ride as well. The only downside was the long stop in Albany (about 1 hour and 45 minutes) and mechanical issues, which caused delays and led me to miss my NYC commute. Aside from those delays, the experience was pleasant. Cons When the stops are more than an hour the Deli should operate
Pros Quick & fast Cons Put some heat on the train Tips It was safe to travel
Pros Everything was fine Cons Info at Penn Station was a bit confusing Tips Arrive early Travel light
Pros View was incredible the whole way!! My first Amtrak ride and I loved it! 13 hours flew by. Would do it again in a heartbeat! Cons Nothing
Pros Picturesque route Cons border crossing Tips Plenty of space on board
Pros The view and the kindness of the staff. Cons Bathrooms! and heat.
Pros I really enjoyed the scenic views along the route, especially the breathtaking landscapes between New York and Montreal. The train was comfortable, and the seats provided plenty of space to relax. The staff was friendly and helpful, making the journey even more pleasant. It was also nice to have Wi-Fi available for part of the trip, which allowed me to stay connected. Overall, it was a smooth and enjoyable experience! Cons While the trip was enjoyable, a few areas could be improved: Wi-Fi Connectivity: The Wi-Fi was intermittent at times, especially in rural areas. Improving the stability of the connection would be great. Announcements: Some announcements were hard to hear due to low volume or unclear audio. Ensuring clear communication would be helpful. These small adjustments could make an already good experience even better! Tips Here are some tips for other travelers taking the train from New York to Montreal: Arrive Early: Arrive at the station at least 30 minutes before departure to find your seat and settle in comfortably. Pack Snacks: While there are food options onboard, bringing your favorite snacks or meals is a great idea, especially for the long journey. Bring Entertainment: Download movies, books, or podcasts beforehand in case the Wi-Fi is spotty. Dress Comfortably: The train is cozy, but layers are a good idea since the temperature can fluctuate. Enjoy the Views: The route has stunning scenery—be sure to grab a window seat and have your camera ready! Prepare for Customs: Keep your passport handy and be ready for the customs process at the border. Enjoy the ride—it's a memorable and relaxing way to travel!
Pros Awesome, always feel better Cons I think, heating in winter Tips Nil
Pros Train was comfortable and convienient Cons Accurate time updates as to when the train was getting in Tips Board early so you can get a good seat
Pros Beautiful scenery and pleasant people Cons I wish the foot rest under the seat could be pulled up all the way so that it was parallel to the seat. Tips none
Pros I love Wanderu and Amtrak and VIA Rail Cons WIFI
Pros Comfortable and quiet Cons Staff could talk in French when traveling to Montréal Tips Bring pillow and sheets
Pros Landscape......but Windows should be cleaned. Cons People watching films without earplug
Pros The comfort Cons Better WIFI Tips Don't trust in the Wi-Fi
Pros Conforto, percurso tranquilo, viagem suave, funcionários prestativos.
Pros Definitely for anyone who typically takes road trips and just wants to sit back for a change and enjoy the ride and scenery. Cons Provide a travel port that shows from and to for the closet trains into Penn station. I had 2 hrs of unnecessary travel time that could've been prevented if I had planned wisely. Tips The dining room cart is basically stocked with chips. cookies, beverages and limited sandwiches. I suggested packing a mini carry on of snacks, drinks and sandwiches to least the trip going.
Pros The train came in on time but then we were stuck waiting for another train to pull out along the way. Cons The seat pocket infront of me was full of trash, maybe have small plastic garbage bag by each seat that could be disposed of when you leave?
Pros Express Cons Seat a bit, but for the price, very decent
Pros Comfortable seat, spacious train. I was able to walk around. Cafe girl and staff were nice. Cons Nothing really. Tips Trains allow you to walk around, eat food from cafe, and more comfy seating I think. I prefer it to bus, and much prefer it to planes.
