About Amtrak Ethan Allen Express

The Ethan Allen Express is a regional train part of Amtrak's nationwide rail network. Starting service in 1996, the Amtrak Ethan Allen Express was the first passenger rail line to Rutland, Vermont since 1953 when Rutland Railroad ended its long-standing service. The Ethan Allen Express has been popular with vacationers since its opening because it offers stops near the ski town of Killington. This line is named after Ethan Allen, an American Revolutionary War hero and Vermont founding figure.

Amtrak Ethan Allen Express operates along 241 miles of railroad between New York City and Rutland, Vermont. The line is designated as a higher-speed train, which means it travels faster than conventional locomotives, though not fast enough to be dubbed “high-speed” rail. The Ethan Allen Express makes ten intermediate stops between NYC and Rutland, including Albany-Rensselaer and Schenectady.

Traveling through the Hudson River Valley, Amtrak's Ethan Allen Express offers passengers miles of scenic countryside, wilderness, and beautiful foliage. This line provides endless opportunities to explore, with many of New York and Vermont's main attractions lying just off the route. From downtown Manhattan, travel on the train to discover the Mid-Hudson Children's Museum, the Saratoga Race Course, and the Killington Ski area to dive further into what these states have to offer.

Although there is only one Ethan Allen Express train per day in each direction, each train will provide you with all the amenities needed for a relaxing and enjoyable trip. With onboard WiFi and cafe services, you'll never run out of entertainment or food, and individual power outlets at your seat keep you connected. Each train offers coach and business class seating options, and upgrading to business class includes onboard amenities plus a more flexible ticket cancellation policy.

Amtrak Ethan Allen Express has been an official Wanderu partner since 2015, so you can be sure you're getting the absolute best price on your train tickets by searching on Wanderu. Simply search for your route and dates, and you can compare all of the available options in one place.
