Pros: Nothing. There was no wifi, although advertised. The seats did not comfortably recline for sleeping. The sear cushions were thin, I had to constantly rotate positions to alleviate pain in my legs. The train was packed to capacity with no opportunity to social distance. Several other riders were coughing amd without masks. Cons: Timeliness. Adhere to cdc guidelines. Offer wifi on long distance trips. Return baggage to customers quicker and more efficiently. Offer better seats for overnight sleeping for persons over 5'8". Tips: Bring your own food if you have gluten allergies. Probably best to bring your own food anyway. Download movies, music, files before boarding, as this train has no wifi. Bring your own pillows, both for sitting on and for sleeping on. The seats are not comfortable at all for side sleepers.

Pros: Coach seats on upper level are very spacious and comfortable. Cons: The only thing I would improve is boarding of the train. I was traveling with my Mom who has difficulty walking quickly for long distances. We were doing fine until we were directed to keep going towards the front of the train only to be directed back up the track when asked our final destination. Tips: Wear a backpack instead of taking a suitcase steps to upper level coach seats are narrow and hard to maneuver.

Pros: We live about 2.5 hrs from the airport, so it took a 5 hr burden off my family to not have to come to DC to pick me up. Very grateful to have discovered Amtrak. The ride was comfortable, low hassle, low cost, and felt safe. Staff were friendly and helpful, proactive about letting people know it was their stop/destination to get off at. Both friendly and proactive in implementing COVID precaution reminders. Finally, I was able to change my ticket date without a change fee, which helped enormously. (I don’t think that’s an accommodation they will be making indefinitely, but I am grateful to have it while it lasts. Cons: Maybe offer some small veggie platter or salad in the cafe. Herbal tea could also be nice. But I’m satisfied with the menu as is. Tips: If you’re wanting something fresh to eat (I.e. fresh fruits or veggies), you should probably pack it yourself. Not too many options with that in the cafe menu.

Pros: In our car was a person who became very belligerent when another passenger asked him to turn down the music he was playing and to use earplugs. He was loud, swearing, telling the person (a family member of me) to wear earplugs himself, to go to sleep, etc. He demanded to know my relative's name. I quietly got up and went to search for a staff member. When I met the person who had greeted us as we boarded the train, I reported the troubling language. She told me that she had confronted this person, and that he would be removed from the train. I was impressed by the concern for us passengers' safety. Cons: I prefer to pay cash for a cup of coffee to the current policy to put $3.00 on my credit card.

Pros: The train was in time and the staff was helpful. Cons: Shame on Amtrak. Everyone on the upper deck was put into one train car. There was no social distancing or ability to spread out. Also there were passengers who knew each other walking around visiting and congregating with no masks. This was highly disappointing, especially when Amtrak claims to be taking all these Covid precautions.

Amtrak Capitol Limited Train Guide & FAQs

Do Amtrak Capitol Limited trains have WiFi?

No, unfortunately Amtrak Capitol Limited does not offer WiFi aboard its trains at this time. However, we find that a good book makes the time fly by and streaming services like Netflix allow you download TV shows and movies that you can then watch during your trip. Plan ahead and you will stay entertained during the entire train ride.

Are there power points or USB points on the train?

Yes, there are power points onboard Amtrak Capitol Limited trains. You can generally find one or two sockets per row of seats, so be a good traveller and check if your seat neighbour might want to charge up their devices as well.
