About Amtrak Vermonter

The Vermonter is an Amtrak passenger train that connects St. Albans, VT to Washington, D.C. by way of New York City, with stops in a total of 30 cities. The train line provides easy access to several towns across Vermont where visitors can go skiing or snowboarding at world-famous winter resorts like Killington and Sugarbush, or simply enjoy the fresh air and unique nature of the Green Mountain National Forest.

The Vermonter has been in operation since 1995 when it replaced Amtrak’s Montrealer line. On average, the service carries about 100,000 passengers per year. Depending on your departure city and destination, the price of a one-way train ticket for Amtrak’s Vermonter line can vary from SEK 59.46 to SEK 4,172.44.

Vermonter trains pass through several towns in western Massachusetts, as well as major cities like Philadelphia and Baltimore. On average, the full train journey from northern Vermont to the nation's capital takes a little under 13 hours, and is renowned for the unique scenic views that the train presents as it passes through the Green Mountains and the Berkshires. In New York or D.C., you can transfer onto several other Amtrak lines that travel inland or further down the East Coast, including the Capitol Limited, the Pennsylvanian, or the Cardinal.

Aboard the Vermonter, passengers can enjoy free WiFi, power outlets at every seat and extra legroom. In each car, there are also several four-seat areas with tables in the middle where you can face and interact with other travelers. You can also grab a bite to eat or enjoy a refreshing beverage from the train’s café.

Amtrak has been an official Wanderu partner since 2015. Thanks to that, you can find and compare all Vermonter train schedules, and book cheap train tickets with ease on Wanderu.
