Located in the secluded Bay of Kotor on Montenegro's Adriatic coast, Kotor is a charming city with breathtaking views of Mt. Lovćen. Built between the 12th and 14th centuries, Kotor has been named a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its medieval architecture and historic city walls.

To immerse yourself in the city's history, visit the Old Town and lose yourself in the narrow cobbled streets filled with artisan shops and local cafes and restaurants. Start in one of the town's squares, the biggest of which is Trg od oruzja (Square of Arms), but don't be afraid to get lost in the twisting medieval streets, discovering the cultural monuments, churches, and city walls scattered throughout.

If you're looking to relax, spend the day at the Bay (or Boka, to the locals). Walled by the Dinaric Alps, the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea and pebble beaches provide the perfect place to spend an afternoon enjoying the breathtaking surroundings.

What's more, if you're a lover of all things feline, then this is the city for you. In recent years, cats have become the unofficial symbol of Kotor. Cat-themed souvenirs and trinkets are sold throughout the city as a homage to the many cats that roam freely through the streets. Catch them lounging on the city walls and monuments, and remind yourself what a vacation is all about: relaxation.

Two international airports offer easy access to Kotor: Tivat Airport (the closer of the two) and Podgorica Airport. The city is also well-connected to neighbouring countries via coach, and the coach station is just a short walk from the Old Town.

Main arrival station: Central Bus Station

Kotor Central Bus Station is one of the busiest coach terminals in Montenegro, with connections to more than twenty popular cities both in and outside the country. The coach station is pretty basic, with a large white roof covering, allowing coach operators to park at different bays. Buses here continue to destinations including Dubrovnik, Podgorica, and Skopje, with stops along the way in Montenegrin cities. There are plenty of seats to wait on as well as a ticket and information booth. The coach stop is quite far outside of the city to the west, so the best way to arrive is by taxi or car unless you really want to get some steps in. There are a few restaurants and a supermarket nearby, and plenty more amenities are in Kotor city center.
