The city is served by three Amtrak lines: the Crescent, the Carolinian, and the Piedmont. Travelers can catch these trains at the station on Tryon St in Lockwood. The main airport of the city is the Charlotte Douglas International Airport, which is the sixth-busiest airport in the country. It is located 6 miles from the city center.

Link to image attributionThe Amtrak train station in Newport News is a low, white-brick building at 9304 Warwick Blvd. This is adjacent to Highway 60, near Huntington Park and the Plaza at Newmarket. Amtrak's Northeast Regional trains and Thruway coaches stop at the station in Newport News. The station has a waiting room with restrooms and vending machines, but there are not many amenities in the immediate area surrounding the station.

This station is the origin point for the Amtrak Carolinian to New York City and the Amtrak Piedmont to Raleigh.
