Amtrak Heartland Flyer is a daily each-way train service operated by Amtrak. It connects Oklahoma City with Fort Worth, Texas, in under five hours, with stops in 7 cities like Purcell and Gainesville as part of the route.

The 206-mile end-to-end route has been operating since 1999, making it one of Amtrak's newest services. Amtrak Heartland Flyer carries around 80,000 passengers each year and is considered one of the best cross-country travel methods. The service came second in the 2022 Wanderu Passengers' Choice Award for both Best Train Line in the United States and Best Ground Travel Provider in the Southwest.

Oklahoma City to Gainesville

Pros: Not having to drive down to Gainesville. Cons: No so many stops to let freight train to pass. Tips: If you can’t do the stairs you need to bring your snacks because the diner car was very inconvenient to get to.

Pros: It was fun and a great way to travel. Enjoyed seeing the scenery and not having to drive. Cons: I’m not sure there’s anything. Tips: Bring earbuds or headphones if you want to listen to a ballgame or music on your phone.

All Amtrak Heartland Flyer tickets can be cancelled for a full refund within the first 24 hours after purchase. If more than 24 hours have passed, the cancellation policy and change fee structure for Amtrak bookings depend on the type of fare you purchased:

Saver Fare tickets: A 25% fee applies for any changes. If you cancel the trip, you will receive an eVoucher worth 75% of the original ticket price.

Value Fare tickets: No change fees and fully refundable up to 15 or more days before departure. If cancelled less than 14 days before departure, a 25% cancellation fee applies.

Flexible, Business and Premium Fare tickets: No change fees and fully refundable if cancelled or changed before departure.

Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable after the train has departed, so be sure to make your updates as soon as possible if your travel plans change.
