Amtrak Heartland Flyer is a daily each-way train service operated by Amtrak. It connects Oklahoma City with Fort Worth, Texas, in under five hours, with stops in 7 cities like Purcell and Gainesville as part of the route.

The 206-mile end-to-end route has been operating since 1999, making it one of Amtrak's newest services. Amtrak Heartland Flyer carries around 80,000 passengers each year and is considered one of the best cross-country travel methods. The service came second in the 2022 Wanderu Passengers' Choice Award for both Best Train Line in the United States and Best Ground Travel Provider in the Southwest.

Pros: New to train rides. It was much smoother than expected. Cons: The PA system can stand to be improved. His announcements were not clear. We hardly knew any of what he was saying; a word or two here and there. Tips: Be a little early to get a good choice of seats.

Pros: Much better than drying out plane ride. Cons: Not take six hours to get there. Was supposed to be an express line and we stopped at five different cities. Parking was ridiculously expensive. Tips: Be prepared to spend more time on train than quoted. Staff was condescending.

All Amtrak Heartland Flyer tickets can be cancelled for a full refund within the first 24 hours after purchase. If more than 24 hours have passed, the cancellation policy and change fee structure for Amtrak bookings depend on the type of fare you purchased:

Saver Fare tickets: A 25% fee applies for any changes. If you cancel the trip, you will receive an eVoucher worth 75% of the original ticket price.

Value Fare tickets: No change fees and fully refundable up to 15 or more days before departure. If cancelled less than 14 days before departure, a 25% cancellation fee applies.

Flexible, Business and Premium Fare tickets: No change fees and fully refundable if cancelled or changed before departure.

Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable after the train has departed, so be sure to make your updates as soon as possible if your travel plans change.
