The city is a popular spot to stay when visiting the many Virginia state parks in the area, such as Leesylvania State Park on the Potomac River. The park is idyllic for swimming, hiking, or boating on sunny days. Head to the (free!) Occoquan Bay Wildlife Refuge to see some local bird species along its four miles of trails.
Potomac Mills is the area's major shopping outlet for some retail therapy. But, obviously, it also houses a number of excellent local restaurants and cafes, and you can also find some local eateries while exploring Potomac Town Center, including locally popular authentic African cuisine and Indian restaurants.
