Amtrak

Pros: I'd never traveled by train in the U.S. before (although I have in a few other countries). I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of travel and especially the comfort compared to a plane. We were visiting from out of state and not familiar with the area so we considered flying from Portland to Seattle to avoid driving in traffic, but then a friend recommended the train. For us, it was a relaxing and inexpensive alternative to flying. We enjoyed the free wifi and reasonably priced lunch. We also appreciated the abundant space for luggage and no bag fees! Overall a good experience and I'll certainly consider taking the train again in the future. Cons: I was confused by the online ticket purchasing process and when I called for help, the agent asked if I was referring to Portland Oregon or Portland Maine. I was flabbergasted because I thought I was calling the Portland OR office. But eventually we got it sorted out and I got the right tickets purchased. Phone numbers to local train stations wild be helpful.

Amtrak

Pros: Reliability and ample boarding and departure times. Cons: Provide screens that would show customers where they are and the next town as the announcer's English is not clear. Tips: That any seat with one passenger is available for them. They are not begging. The attendants should also make it their business to tell passengers that they can seat anywhere there is a empty seat.
