New Carrollton is a small town in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, located about 13 miles northeast of the nation's capital. Much of the city is residential, with services typical for a suburb, including a shopping mall, grocery stores, several restaurants, and so on. A true hidden gem in the area is Greenbelt Park, a forested park with 172 campsites and nine miles of trails perfect for an escape to nature.
A few hotels in New Carrollton and neighboring Lanham welcome D.C. visitors who would rather not pay downtown prices. It's easy to reach D.C. from the New Carrollton station, which connects to the Washington Metro's Orange Line and the MARC trains that serve Maryland. It takes just 11 minutes to reach Union Station in D.C. from New Carrollton on the Metro.
The New Carrollton train station is also a stop for Amtrak trains heading north. The Northeast Regional departing from D.C. makes its first stop in New Carrollton before continuing on to Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston. In addition, bus lines provide service to New Carrollton from as far away as Indianapolis or St. Louis. For those who prefer to fly, the nearest major airport is the Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.
