Pros: Smooth train, good staff. Bus tighter and less friendly, but nice seat belts. Love that I could walk around on train. Cons: Wifi great on train, unstable on bus.

Pros: The seat was incredibly comfortable and the dining car was stocked with many well priced options. Cons: The timing of the train was significantly slowed down because of work on the tracks, and the staff did a mediocre job of communicating what was going on. Tips: Make sure to leave additional time at your destination in case there is an unplanned slowdown.

Pros: Gentleman working in the snack bar was very congenial. Announcements about itinerary and Willamette Falls. Cons: Make it clear which car to get on when boarding in Seattle. We were seated then had to gather out gear and move.

Pros: Space. Cons: Full amenities available. Tips: Observation room is cool.

Pros: I'd never visited the northwest and it was a great way to see a bit of the country. The price was a bit more than the bus but much less than renting a car, so it was an easy decision. Cons: My car had no power to charge devices. The conductor unsuccessfully tried to reset the breaker. And a larger point, not specific to this trip, but our country needs affordable, dependable high-speed passenger rail. What a difference it would make!

The Costal Starlight was 1 hour late into Eugene but made up ALL the time so that we arrived on time in Seattle.
