The city was founded in the 12th century, and visitors can see many traces of its medieval era in the existing town. Stockholm Central is a large transit complex and the center of railway transportation services in Stockholm. The palatial station first opened in 1871, and while its historic facade has been maintained, the station's interior has modernized significantly. If you take the metro from Central, don't miss the vivid murals in the subway tunnels.
