Amtrak

Pros: Staff were friendly and helpful, especially at the Detroit Amtrak station. I've never taken Amtrak anywhere before and the gentleman behind the counter could sense I was a little unsure and he took the time to give me a very patient and helpful overview of each step involved. Cons: There were multiple delayed trains throughout my trip, resulting in an arrival time two hours later than anticipated. Since I had no specific appointments to keep at my destination, that didn't impact my trip much, but others aboard my train were upset that they were unable to keep to their schedules. Tips: For overland travel, I may begin to prefer overnight Amtrak trips as opposed to flying. Sleeping in my seat in coach was surprisingly comfy, but the noise and lights woke me several times. Next time I might bring a pillow, blindfold, and earplugs to help me sleep better.
