Chemnitz to Bamberg train

Named for the river running through the town, Chemnitz is a cultural center in Saxony, close to Germany's border with Czechia. The city was known as Karl-Marx-Stadt before German reunification, and an enormous bronze sculpture of Karl Marx's head reminds visitors of this legacy. Other notable structures in town include the Red Tower, a remnant of the city's 12-century walls, and the striking Altes Rathaus, or Old Town Hall. These two buildings are located close to the city center, with many enticing restaurants and unique shops in between.

Bamberg is one of Germany’s most beautiful towns and a popular destination for travelers seeking that postcard-perfect vacation. Bamberg is sometimes called the Rome of Franconia because the city grew on and around seven hills as Rome did. The city's prized attraction is the Bamberg Cathedral, a vast medieval cathedral part of the Town of Bamberg UNESCO Heritage Site.
