Frankfurt am Main to Split train

Frankfurt is Germany's financial hub, home to the European Central Bank. This riverside city offers a variety of cultural and historical attractions scattered between its financial institutions and shops.

Your first stop should be Old Town, along the river Main. Once the center of the city, the Old Town district is now the site of the Römer, or city hall, along a row of picturesque timber houses. Stop in Kleinmarkthalle, a bustling indoor market, to grab a sausage for a snack before wandering through some of Old Town's museums: Saalgasse, Dommuseum, and Museum für Moderne Kunst (Museum MMK) will get you started. Two of Frankfurt's most prominent churches, St. Bartholomew Cathedral and St. Nicholas Church, are also in the area.

Food is always delightful in Frankfurt. Several Michelin-star restaurants will entice you, including Restaurant Lafleur, Restaurant Gustav, Restaurant Villa Merton, and Carmelo Greco. If you prefer more affordable dining and lively nightlife, head to the Bahnhofsviertel neighborhood near the city's train station.

The train station in Bahnhofsviertel serves national and international rail lines for Deutsche Bahn, DB Intercity, FlixTrain, vlexx, and Railjet. You can also reach Frankfurt easily on bus carriers like FlixBus and Sindbad. Plus, flying in and out of Frankfurt is a breeze, as the airport is one of the largest in Germany and the main hub for the Lufthansa airline.

Located on the picturesque Adriatic Coast, Split is the second-largest city in Croatia. With a history including Roman, Venetian, Austrian, French, Italian, and Yugoslav rule, Split has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its many historic attractions and strikingly varied architecture.

The Palazzo di Diocleziano lies at the city's historic heart. This exceptionally well-preserved 4th-century palace showcases the Roman emperor Diocletian's stately retirement home and military camp. Walk along the Roman streets with their original paving stones, and see if you can identify several "Game of Thrones" filming locations. After walking through the maze of cobblestone streets in Old Town, sit in one of the many cafes in People's Square for an afternoon coffee.

For even more of a taste of Croatia, visit one of the local restaurants. As Split is a coastal town, seafood dishes are the standard, but the flavors are far above standard! Make sure to try brudet, a traditional seafood stew commonly served along the Croatian coast. Finish your meal with mandulat, a traditional dessert from the Dalmatia region, made with honey and almonds.

You can easily reach Split from many national and international destinations. Split Airport offers international flights, and an airport shuttle bus provides easy access to the city. Bus services connect Split to many cities across Europe, including Budapest, Berlin, and Bratislava. Deutsche Bahn trains even run all the way to Split, so you can travel the entire length of Central Europe.
