Amtrak

Pros: I'm from SD and loved taking the Coaster, so this brought back some cool memories of that. Monterey is always fun to visit and a great place for some fantastic food. Cons: The connection to the bus line was not real clear. Asked the conductor for help and he was great, but the info was a bit off. I got lucky by walking around the bus terminal. It would be nice to have the bus terminal number on the ticket (1,2,3,4 or 5). Could have missed my connection if I did not ask questions. Tips: It sucks that Amtrak doesn't go all the way to Monterey, but it was a nice trip and definitely a good alternative to driving. But my advice is to understand the transfer portion. Know what bus to look for. That is key as it is not straight forward. The bus does land you right in downtown Monterey and, if you want my recommendation, the Hotel Pacific or the Portola Hotel are walking distance and great places to stay stay. The Warf and the Aquarium are a nice walk from there as well.
