Cross-border travel between the U.S. & Canada

The border between the United States and Canada is now officially open for vaccinated Americans & Canadians. Please check out the COVID-19 requirements for non-essential travel between the U.S. & Canada.

Alabama
No travel restrictions.

Alaska
There are no travel restrictions. However, Out-of-state visitors are encouraged to arrive in the state with a negative COVID-19 test taken prior to departure. Visitors without a negative COVID-19 test can get tested at the airport at their own expense. Visitors are still required to fill out a travel declaration form and submit a self-isolation plan to the state. Fully vaccinated visitors do not need to take a test. Learn more

California
There are no state-wide travel restrictions. However, unvaccinated out-of-state travelers are advised to self-quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. Learn more

Connecticut
There are no travel restrictions. However, unvaccinated visitors and returning residents are encouraged to quarantine upon entering the state for a full seven days with a negative COVID-19 test taken 3-5 days into quarantine, or a full 10 days without a COVID-19 test. Learn more

District of Columbia
Unvaccinated travelers visiting for more than a day must test negative for Covid-19 within 72 hours of visiting. You don’t need a COVID-19 test if you’re traveling from Maryland and Virginia.

Kansas
There are no travel restrictions for domestic travel. However, anyone who has attended an out-of-state mass gathering of 500 or more where they could not socially distance (6 feet) and wear a mask must quarantine for 7, 10 or 14 days. However, quarantine is still recommended for all travelers who are not fully vaccinated or have not recovered from laboratory confirmed COVID-19 during the previous 3 months. Alberta
There are no provincial travel restrictions to enter Alberta. All visitors must comply with Canada’s federal travel restrictions, including entry requirements and mandatory COVID-19 testing.

The Canadian federal government allows fully vaccinated foreign nationals to enter Canada for non-essential travel. Essential travel is allowed for unvaccinated travelers. All visitors must comply with entry requirements, including COVID-19 tests and a mandatory quarantine period, unless exempt. Entering Canada by air and traveling on VIA Rail trains or cruise ships requires proof of vaccination. Learn more

British Columbia
Travel within British Columbia is permitted as long as travelers respect the safety measures that are put in place by local authorities and private businesses. There are no quarantine requirements for people traveling to B.C. from another province or territory within Canada. However, visitors are expected to follow the same travel guidelines as everyone else in B.C. and travel safely and respectfully.

The Canadian federal government allows fully vaccinated foreign nationals to enter Canada for non-essential travel. Essential travel is allowed for unvaccinated travelers. All visitors must comply with entry requirements, including COVID-19 tests and a mandatory quarantine period, unless exempt. Entering Canada by air and traveling on VIA Rail trains or cruise ships requires proof of vaccination. Learn more

Manitoba
Anyone arriving in Manitoba is required to self-isolate for 14-days upon arrival to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Travel to Northern Manitoba is restricted.

There are exceptions to this requirement: Manitoba residents who have travelled to western Canada (British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut) or northwestern Ontario (the portion of Ontario that is located west of Terrace Bay) are exempt from the self-isolation requirements when they return to Manitoba if they have not travelled outside of western Canada or northwestern Ontario and are not displaying any symptoms of COVID-19. Residents of western Canada or northwestern Ontario are also exempt, if they have not travelled to another country or any part of Canada outside of western Canada or northwestern Ontario in the 14-day period immediately before entering or arriving in Manitoba and are not displaying any symptoms of COVID-19. Fully vaccinated individuals are also exempt. Learn more

New Brunswick
Unnecessary travel into New Brunswick is limited, and peace officers are authorized to turn visitors away when they attempt to enter. Unnecessary travel includes non-residents entering New Brunswick to make or receive purchases or to visit or for other social purposes.

Residents of the Atlantic provinces (New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador) can travel within the four provinces without the requirement to self-isolate. Atlantic Canadians traveling within the region will not need to self-isolate for 14 days. All travelers, including those entering from the other Atlantic provinces, will continue to be screened at interprovincial points of entry into New Brunswick and will be asked for proof of province of residence. Unless you are exempt, New Brunswickers returning from travel outside of Atlantic Canada need to self-isolate for 14 days. (New Brunswickers returning from work in another Canadian province or territory continue to not be required to self-isolate when they return to New Brunswick). Fully vaccinated individuals are exempt from the self-isolation requirement. Learn more

Newfoundland and Labrador
All travelers are permitted to enter Newfoundland and Labrador. Unvaccinated individuals are required to self-isolate for 14 days and get tested for COVID-19.

All travelers entering Newfoundland and Labrador are required to submit a Travel Form. Permanent residents of Newfoundland and Labrador, Fermont, and the Quebec Lower North Shore area entering the province from one of the communities along the Labrador-Quebec Border are not required to self-isolate or get tested, regardless of vaccination status. Northwest Territories
Unless otherwise directed by the Chief Public Health Officer, unvaccinated travelers arriving in the NWT must mandatorily self-isolate and stay at home for 14 days in Yellowknife, Inuvik, Hay River or Fort Smith only. NWT residents cannot self-isolate in a small community or other regional centre other than the four listed communities if they have returned from outside the NWT.

Those who do not have an exemption under the public health order, or have not been granted one for exceptional circumstances, are not allowed to travel within the Northwest Territories. Learn more

Nova Scotia
Unless exempt, travelers entering Nova Scotia from outside of the province must self-isolate for at least 7 days, and receive 2 negative tests results in order to leave isolation after 7 days.

Everyone (12 or older) traveling into Nova Scotia from outside the province needs to complete a Nova Scotia Safe Check-in Form before they travel to the province. This includes Nova Scotia residents who have travelled outside Atlantic Canada and are returning to the province, as well as individuals traveling through Nova Scotia to another destination. Fully vaccinated travelers are exempt from the self-isolation requirement. Learn more

Nunavut
Travelers who wish to enter Nunavut, must write to [email protected] and complete and sign the Common Area Traveller’s Declaration form. Failure to do so will affect entry in Nunavut. Failure to answer truthfully will be subject to fines. This also applies for Nunavummiut who wish to return home after their stay in the NWT or Churchill. Anyone traveling by air must have a letter of authorization from the CPHO in order to board the aircraft.

Prior to boarding a plane into the territory, residents will undergo a mandatory 14-day isolation period in either Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton or Yellowknife. At the end of the 14 days, asymptomatic residents will be cleared and provided a letter signed by the Chief Public Health Officer allowing them to return to their home community. This also includes medical travel patients. Learn more

Ontario
Ontario has no inter-provincial travel restrictions. However, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health strongly advises that individuals and families only travel out of the province if it is essential and self-isolate for 14 days when arriving in or returning to Ontario.

The Canadian federal government allows fully vaccinated foreign nationals to enter Canada for non-essential travel. Essential travel is allowed for unvaccinated travelers. All visitors must comply with entry requirements, including COVID-19 tests and a mandatory quarantine period, unless exempt. Entering Canada by air and traveling on VIA Rail trains or cruise ships requires proof of vaccination. Learn more

Prince Edward Island
People from outside the Atlantic Provinces are not able to come to PEI at this time unless pre-approved as an essential worker, a seasonal resident, for compassionate reasons, or to provide family support. Everyone 8 years and older will be tested at points of entry regardless of vaccination status.

Vaccinated residents of Prince Edward Island and vaccinated non-residents may apply for a PEI pass to forego self-isolation requirements upon re-entry into the province. Unvaccinated residents will be required to self-isolate for 8 days, with testing on day 8, unless exempt. Learn more

Quebec
Currently, Quebec has no inter-provincial travel restrictions, with the exception of the following territories: Nunavik and the Cree Territory of James Bay. If you reside in one of these two regions, you can return home with proof residence. However, if you have symptoms of COVID-19, you will have to self-isolate for 14 days in a place indicated by a quarantine officer or another authority.

There are no self-isolation requirements in Quebec for Canadian residents, except for the territories mentioned above. Learn more

Saskatchewan
Currently, the province has no domestic travel restrictions. Self-isolation is only mandatory for international travel.

The Canadian federal government allows fully vaccinated foreign nationals to enter Canada for non-essential travel. Essential travel is allowed for unvaccinated travelers. All visitors must comply with entry requirements, including COVID-19 tests and a mandatory quarantine period, unless exempt. Yukon
Travelers arriving in the Yukon from within Canada are not required to self-isolate or show proof of vaccination. If arriving in the Yukon from outside of Canada, federal rules for entering Canada apply. 

The Canadian federal government allows fully vaccinated foreign nationals to enter Canada for non-essential travel. Essential travel is allowed for unvaccinated travelers. All visitors must comply with entry requirements, including COVID-19 tests and a mandatory quarantine period, unless exempt. Albania
Albania’s land borders are open for travel but strict social distancing and face mask guidelines continue to be enforced, especially indoors. 

Austria
All travellers entering Austria must show either a negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination, or recovery from infection. If entering Austria from a state with low epidemiological risk (as defined by the government of Austria; see the link below), travelers will be exempt from mandatory self-isolation.

Vaccinated travelers from other regions are also exempt from mandatory self-isolation. An online registration form (pre-travel clearance) must be completed before entry into Austria. Learn more

Belarus
Citizens of most foreign countries arriving in Belarus are only permitted to enter the country by air. A 7-day self-isolation period and negative PCR test performed no later than 3 days before crossing the border are required, unless the traveler has a certificate of vaccination against COVID-19.

Belgium
Belgium has restricted the entry of all travelers who are not arriving from EEA countries, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom.

Nationals, permanent residents, and long-term visa holders of EEA Member States, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, and their family members may still enter Belgium from outside of those countries, but will be required to self-isolate for 14 days on arrival. Travelers entering Belgium from outside the Schengen Area or any high risk area must present a certificate of vaccination or recovery certificate, and get tested on day 1 or day 2 after their arrival in Belgium.

Bosnia and Herzegovina
All foreigners are allowed to enter the country as long as they present a negative PCR test for Covid-19 that is not older than 48 hours at the moment of entry.

Citizens of Montenegro, Serbia and Croatia who come directly from the country of which they are citizens are allowed to enter without presenting a negative test. Learn more

Bulgaria
Entry is allowed only to Bulgarian nationals and foreigners with permanent and long-term residence in Bulgaria and their family members. In addition, nationals of the member states of the European Union (EU), the member states of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, UK and Northern Irelend may enter Bulgaria if they are traveling from one of those regions. All travelers will be required to provide proof of vaccination and proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no sooner than 72 hours before entry. Travelers without either a proof of vaccination or proof of recovery from COVID-19 must still provide negative test results and enter a 10-day quarantine.

Visitors from “Red Zone” countries may not enter Bulgaria unless they have citizenship in Bulgaria, Switzerland, the UK, Northern Ireland, or another member state of the EU or EEA. Visitors from “Green Zone” and “Orange Zone” countries are permitted to enter Bulgaria. Check the current list of countries in these zones. Learn more

Croatia
Croatia has opened its borders to visitors from the EU/EEA and the UK who can provide a valid EU Digital COVID certificate. Unvaccinated visitors from these countries may enter Croatia if they have a negative COVID-19 test result from the past 72 hours or proof of recovery from COVID-19.

All other foreign nationals, including US citizens, may enter Croatia for business, tourism, or other pressing personal reasons but they must present a negative PCR test issued within 48 hours of arrival or proof of vaccination. Those who do not provide a valid test or proof of vaccination will be ordered to quarantine. Learn more

Cyprus
Cyprus has reopened its borders and is allowing travelers to enter based on their country of origin. The country has created CyprusFlightPass, an online portal where travelers can submit the necessary details to receive authorization to fly to Cyprus. Countries have been sorted into categories green, orange, and red based on their epidemiological situation, with green being the most favorable.

Country categories are updated weekly, and can be checked here. Visitors from the Green category must have a CyprusFlightPass to enter. Travelers arriving from countries not classified as “Green” can enter Cyprus without required isolation or COVID-19 tests if they have been fully vaccinated. Visitors from the Orange category must have a CyprusFlightPass and present a negative PCR test for COVID-19 obtained within 72 hours of entering the country. Visitors from the Red category must have a CyprusFlightPass and present a negative PCR test for COVID-19 obtained within 72 hours of entering the country, as well as register for a PCR test upon arrival in Cyprus. Learn more

Czech Republic
All travelers must show either a negative COVID test, proof of vaccination, or proof of past infection, and also complete a Passenger Locator Form. Travelers arriving from countries with high or very high risk must also complete an additional test on the 5th day after arrival. The Czech Republic allows visitors from countries classified to be of low risk to enter without any quarantine requirements.

Denmark
Conditions of entry into Denmark depend on the classification of the country of origin: green, yellow, orange, or red. The current categorization of countries’ risk can be found here.

Visitors coming from higher-risk countries may be required to self-isolate, receive a negative test before entry, and receive a negative test after entry. Fully vaccinated travelers are exempt from testing or self-isolation if traveling from the EU/Schengen Area, COVID-19 low-risk countries, or OECD countries. Learn more

Estonia
Entry into Estonia is allowed for all vaccinated travelers without restrictions. Travelers from countries classified by Estonia into color categories may be required to test before or after entry, depending on the country’s classification. Unvaccinated visitors from all other countries are allowed to enter only for work or academic purposes and must: take COVID-19 tests before and after entry and self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival.

A 14-day quarantine applies to travelers arriving from all countries except those in which the COVID-19 infection rate is 16 cases or fewer per 100,000 people for the previous 14 days. Travelers may shorten the quarantine period by getting tested as soon as they arrive in the country. Two consecutive negative tests are necessary (with the second test performed no earlier than 7 days after the results of the first test) to waive the full 14-day quarantine requirement. Learn more

Finland
Travelers from EU and Schengen countries are allowed into Finland without restrictions. Visitors from all other countries are allowed entry if they can show proof of vaccination.

Unvaccinated travelers can enter Finland without restrictions if they are traveling from countries with normalized cross-border traffic. These countries include: Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, Jordan, Kuwait, Macau, Namibia, New Zealand, Peru, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates and Uruguay. Unvaccinated travelers arriving from countries with border restrictions in place (such as Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States) are only allowed to enter Finland for reasons deemed essential.  Learn more

France
All vaccinated travelers can enter France with proof of vaccination. Unvaccinated travelers’ entry restrictions depend on the color category of the departure country. The current categorization of countries’ risk and color designation can be found here.

Travelers arriving from a “green” country (which includes the EU) must present a negative COVID-19 test taken less than 72 hours before entry. Travelers arriving from an “orange” country are only allowed to enter France with “pressing grounds” for travel, and must present a negative test and self-isolate for 7 days. Travelers arriving from a “red” country are only allowed entry with “pressing grounds” for travel, and must present a negative test, as well as receive a test upon arrival and isolate for 10 days with supervision. Learn more

Germany
All travelers entering Germany must show either a negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination, or proof of past infection. Entry to Germany is allowed to visitors from countries that are members of the EU, countries in the Schengen Area, as well as residents from approved countries. Visitors coming from any other country may only enter Germany if they have an “urgent need” to travel, or if they are fully vaccinated.

Travelers arriving from a high-risk area (including the United States) must register here before arriving in Germany, and provide both a negative COVID-19 test and proof of vaccination or proof of past infection. Learn more

Greece
Entry to Greece is allowed to visitors from countries that are members of the EU, countries in the Schengen Area, the United Kingdom, as well as Albania, Andorra, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Australia, Bahrain, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, India, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Kosovo, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Qatar, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, South Korea, Sultanate of Oman, Taiwan, the Russian Federation, the United Arab Emirates, the United States of America, Turkey, Ukraine, Uruguay, and the Vatican. Travelers from any other country are not allowed entry, unless an exemption applies.

All travelers except those only transiting through an airport in Greece must complete a “Passenger Locator Form (PLF)” online here 24 hours before check-in . All travelers must also provide proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test result, or proof of recovery from COVID-19. All travelers are subject to random COVID-19 testing upon arrival. Hungary
The following travelers are allowed to enter Hungary without restrictions: travelers with an EU Digital COVID certificate, travelers who have recovered from COVID-19 in the last 6 months, travelers with a Hungarian immunity certificate, travelers with an immunity certificate provided by one of these countries, travelers entering Hungary for essential purposes, and travelers who can present a negative COVID-19 test performed within 72 hours from the time of entry in the EU, an EU candidate state, an OECD member state, NATO member state, Russia, China, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, or a member state of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States. Travelers in any of those categories can enter Hungary without the need to self-isolate.

Non-Hungarian citizens who do not fit in any of the above categories may only enter Hungary for essential reasons. Travelers entering Hungary for essential reasons must apply for an entry permit issued by the Hungarian Police, and isolate for 10 days.

Iceland
Entry is allowed to Icelandic nationals and visitors from EU/EEA, EFTA countries and the United Kingdom, and entry is also allowed to their relatives. Foreign citizens with a valid residence permit in Iceland or any other EU/EEA or EFTA state (including the UK) or Andorra, Monaco, San Marino or the Vatican are also allowed to enter Iceland, along with their relatives. Travelers from Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, Israel, Jordan, Kosovo, Kuwait, Lebanaon, Macao, Moldova, Montenegro, Namibia, New Zealand, North Macedonia, Peru, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, United States of America and Uruguay may enter Iceland as long as they can present documents confirming their residence in one of these countries and documents confirming they are traveling to Iceland directly from their respective country. In addition, fully vaccinated travelers and travelers traveling for essential reasons may enter Iceland.

Individuals who are exempted from travel restrictions must be able to show proof of exemption upon arrival. All travelers must provide a negative COVID-19 test prior to entry, and travelers who are not exempt from restrictions must undergo quarantine. Learn more

Ireland
All travelers who are arriving in Ireland are required to complete a Public Health Passenger Locator Form, and provide a negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination, or proof of past infection.

Arrivals from the EU/EFTA do not have to undergo quarantine or travel-related testing. For travelers arriving from outside the EU/EFTA, quarantining is not necessary if the traveler has proof of vaccination or proof of recovery. Otherwise, travelers need to provide a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours prior to arrival, undergo a 14-day self-quarantine and may take tests upon arrival to shorten the quarantine period. Italy
All travelers entering Italy are required to provide a Passenger Locator Form. The requirements for entry depend on the country of departure, which are categorized into five lists.

Most countries in the EU are in List C; visitors entering from one of these countries must provide an EU Digital COVID Certificate (or equivalent) showing proof of vaccination, proof of recovery from COVID-19, or a negative COVID-19 test.

Visitors from List D (which includes the United States) must take a negative COVID-19 test in the 72 hours prior to entering Italy and present a COVID-19 Green Certificate showing proof of vaccination. Unvaccinated travelers must take a negative test and self-isolate for a total of 5 days.

Visitors from List E can only enter Italy for essential reasons. These reasons include work, health or study, or absolute urgency, returning to one’s home, domicile, or dwelling. Travel for tourism is not allowed for travelers entering Italy from these countries. The return to Italy from this group of countries is always permitted to Italian/EU/Schengen citizens and their family members, as well as holders of residence permits and their family members. Kosovo
Kosovo is open to travelers from all countries and there are no requirements to self-isolate on entry.

However, the government recommends that all travelers have proof of a negative test result for COVID-19 no older than four days upon entry, as travelers may be subject to a health check at entry points.

Latvia
All travelers must fill in the Covidpass.lv before entry. Travelers are required to show a negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination, or proof of past infection. Travelers entering Latvia from a country where the 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 people exceeds 75 are required to self-isolate for 10 days.

Vaccinated travelers and travelers recovered from COVID-19 do not have to get tested for COVID-19 prior to travel unless the person has been in a particularly high-risk country; other travelers are required to get tested before traveling from any country. Lithuania
All travelers entering Lithuania must fill in a questionnaire, and show proof of a negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination, or proof of past infection. Vaccinated travelers do not need to take a test or self-isolate, regardless of departure country; vaccinated travelers need only fill out the questionnaire and show proof of vaccination.

Entry requirements for unvaccinated travelers depend on the color classification of the country of origin; travelers entering from a green or orange country need to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test before arrival, and take another test on the 3rd to 5th day after arrival (for orange countries only). Travelers from a red, dark red, or grey country, or a country outsider of the EEA need to show proof of a negative test, and self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival. Learn more

Luxembourg
Entry is allowed to nationals and residents of Luxembourg, nationals and long-term residents of EU countries and Schengen Area members, as well as residents of Saudi Arabia, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, China, South Korea, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Kuwait, New Zealand, Qatar, Hong Kong, Macao, Rwanda, Singapore, Taiwan, Ukraine, and Uruguay. Citizens of any other country are not allowed to enter Luxeumbourg unless they can provide acceptable proof of vaccination, or for travel deemed essential.

All travelers aged 12 or over seeking to enter Luxembourg by air must provide proof of vaccination, a certificate of recovery, or proof of a negative COVID-19 test administered within 72 hours before the flight. Learn more

Northern Macedonia
Entry is allowed to visitors from all countries in the world. Travelers must provide proof of vaccination, certificate of recovery, or a negative COVID-19 test taken in the 72 hours before entering the country. Travelers who cannot provide any of these will be required to self-isolate for seven days.

Malta
All travelers entering Malta are required to submit a passenger locator form (PLF) online before entry. Further entry requirements depend on Malta’s color classification of the country of departure.

Travelers entering Malta from “red” countries (including the U.S.) must show an approved proof of vaccination; if unvaccinated, travelers must present a negative PCR test done in the 72 hours before entering Malta and undergo mandatory quarantine.

Travelers entering from “dark red” countries are only permitted to enter for essential reasons, or with special authorization. To enter from a “dark red” country, travelers must secure authorization from the Maltese Public Health Authorities, provide a negative test result from the previous 72 hours, and quarantine for 14 days. Moldova
Travelers entering Moldova must present one of the folllowing documents: proof of full vaccination, negative PCR test result taken no more than 72 hours before arrival, negative antigen test result taken no more than 48 hours before arrival, or confirmation of presence of COVID-19 antibodies from the past 90 days. If unable to provide any of these, travelers must complete an online health form and commit to self-isolate for 14 days. Exemptions are allowed for children under 12, cross-border workers, students coming for studies, and other types of essential travel.

Monaco
Travelers may enter Monaco from any country if they can provide proof of vaccination or proof of COVID-19 recovery (positive PCR test more than 11 days old and less than 6 months old). The requirements for entry for unvaccinated travelers depends on Monaco’s country classification.

Travelers coming from a green zone (including the EU) must present a negative COVID-19 test result from the past 72 hours.

Travelers coming from an orange zone (including the US) must justify that their travel is for essential reasons, present a negative test result from the past 72 hours, and self-isolate for 7 days upon arrival.

Travelers coming from a red zone must justify that their travel is for essential reasons, present a negative test result from the past 72 hours, and self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival (can be shortened with 2 negative tests). Learn more

Montenegro
Entry without any additional requirements is allowed to visitors from all EU countries, as well as Algeria, Andorra, Angola, Azerbaijan, Barbados, Brunei, Belarus, Cambodia, Canada, China, Cuba, Fiji, Philippines, Georgia, Indonesia, Iceland, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Liechtenstein, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mauritius, Mongolia, Monaco, Morocco, Mozambique, Nepal, Nicaragua, Norway, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Russia, Senegal, South Korea, Switzerland, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkey, Trinidad and Tobago, Tunisia, Uruguay, Ukraine, UAE, Uzbekistan, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Entry with a negative result of PCR test for Covid-19 or a positive result for antibodies to Covid-19 is allowed to visitors from Albania, Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Israel, Kosovo, Lebanon, Northern Macedonia, Seychelles, Singapore, Serbia, United States.

For all other countries, only citizens and long-term residents of Montenegro are allowed to enter given that they self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival. Learn more

The Netherlands
Travelers are allowed to enter the Netherlands from another country in the EU/Schengen area, but the requirements vary based on the Netherlands’ classification of risk of the origin country. Travelers from outside the EU/Schengen area may enter for non-essential reasons if they are vaccinated or if they are traveling from a low risk or high risk (but not very high risk) country.

If entering from a low-risk country, a COVID-19 test and quarantine are not required.

If entering from a high-risk country, a negative COVID-19 test, proof of vaccination, or proof of recovery is required. In addition, travelers are advised to take a COVID-19 test upon arrival (even if vaccinated).

Travelers from a very high-risk country (including the U.S.) may only enter the Netherlands if they fall under an exemption category, such as fully vaccinated travelers. Travelers from a very high-risk country who meet an exemption must still quarantine for 10 days, provide a negative COVID-19 test, and fill in a health declaration. Learn more

Norway
Entry is allowed only to nationals and residents of countries in the EU/EEA, Schengen Area, or United Kingdom.

Any other traveler can only travel to Norway if they fall into an exemption category, which includes visitors who are vaccinated, visitors traveling for essential reasons, or residents of a country categorized as “purple.” Unvaccinated visitors must quarantine for 10 days upon arrival. The exemption for vaccinated travelers requires a digital EU COVID-19 certificate, and a paper vaccination card is not accepted as proof of vaccination to enter Norway.  Learn more

Poland
All travelers entering Poland must submit a passenger locator form. Citizens of the EU/EFTA, and citizens of Georgia, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Thailand, South Korea, Tunisia, Australia, Israel, the United States of America, Turkey, and Ukraine may enter Poland. Visitors from any other country must fall into an exemption category of essential travel to be allowed entry.

Travelers entering Poland must quarantine for 10 days unless they can provide approved proof of vaccination, proof of recovery, or a negative COVID-19 test result. Learn more

Portugal
Entry is allowed to nationals and residents of EU member states, EFTA member states (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland), Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, South Korea, United States of America, Jordan, New Zealand, Qatar, Republic of Moldova, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Kingdom and special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao. All travelers must provide a negative COVID-19 test result, proof of vaccination, or proof of recovery, and also fill a Passenger Locator Card before departure to Portugal.

Visitors from countries other than the ones listed above may enter only for “essential” purposes such as work, academic study, health and humanitarian reasons. Travelers to Madeira and the Azores must present a negative test result for Covid-19 obtained within 72 hours prior to arrival, or take a test on arrival and self-isolate for 48 hrs while waiting for the results. 

Serbia
Entry is allowed to visitors from all countries in the world. However, visitors are required to present a negative PCR test completed no more than 48 hours prior to arrival, a certificate of vaccination, or certificate of COVID-19 recovery issued in the past 6 months. If one of these is not presented, travelers must self-isolate for 10 days upon entry. Learn more

Romania
Entry is allowed to visitors from all countries in the world, but requirements vary based on Romania’s classification of risk areas.

Travelers entering Romania from a green country may enter without restrictions. Travelers entering Romania from a yellow country may enter if they provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test result from the past 72 hours. Travelers entering Romania from a red country (including the U.S.) may enter if they can provide proof of vaccination. If travelers from a yellow or red country cannot provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result, they will be subject to a 14-day quarantine. Learn more

Slovakia
All travelers entering Slovakia must complete a Registration Form and a Passenger Locator Form. Fully vaccinated travelers and travelers who have recovered from COVID-19 are exempt from self-isolation and testing requirements. Unvaccinated travelers must self-isolate upon entry and take a RT-PCR test on the 5th day of isolation, regardless of the country they travel from.

Passengers arriving by air to Slovakia must provide proof of a negative RT-PCR test result from the past 72 hours, unless they are traveling from one of the following countries: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, China, Czechia, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Georgia, The Netherlands, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Iceland, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Canada, South Korea, Kosovo, Cuba, Lebanon, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macau, Hungary, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Germany, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Romania, San Marino, North Macedonia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Mexico, Serbia, Switzerland, The Holy See (Vatican), Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey, Ukraine. Slovenia
Non-essential travel is allowed for the following travelers: all residents of EU and Schengen area countries, residents of Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, Namibia, New Zealand, Peru, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Ukraine, Uruguay, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan, and all other foreign nationals if they present proof of vaccination or proof of recovery plus partial vaccination.

Entry without quarantine is allowed for travelers who can provide one of the following: a negative PCR test from the past 72 hours or a negative rapid antigen test from the past 48 hours, an EU Digital COVID certificate, proof of full vaccination, a positive PCR test between 10 and 180 days old and proof of recovery from COVID-19. Spain
All travelers entering Spain by air or by sea must complete a Health Control Form before arrival. Any travelers coming from countries and areas considered at-risk (updated weekly) must provide proof of vaccination, proof of recovery from COVID-19, or a negative test result.

All travelers from the EU and Schengen Area may enter Spain. In addition, travelers coming from outside the EU/Schengen Area may enter Spain if they provide proof of vaccination.

Unvaccinated travelers coming from outside the EU/Schengen area may only enter Spain if they belong to one of these categories: residents in the EU or Schengen Area, long-term visa holders issued by an EU or Schengen state, health or transport professionals traveling for work, diplomatic travelers, students who study in the EU or Schengen Area, highly qualified workers who must enter Spain for work, persons traveling for imperative family reasons, and persons traveling for other essential reasons. Sweden
Sweden has extended its travel ban, and includes a ban on travel to Sweden from EU/EEA States unless the traveler can provide a vaccination certificate, a test certificate, or a certificate confirming recovery from COVID-19. Entry from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Norway is not subject to any entry restrictions.

Travel to Sweden from a country outside of the EU/EEA is not allowed except for essential reasons, and requires a negative COVID-19 test. Learn more

Switzerland
All travelers entering Switzerland must provide a negative test result, proof of vaccination, or proof of recovery by filling out an entry form. Holders of an EU Digital COVID Certificate may enter Switzerland if their certificate contains proof of vaccination, certificate or recovery, or certificate of a pre-departure PCR test taken within 72 hours of arrival. Travelers from a country with a variant of concern who have not been vaccinated must self-isolate upon entry into Switzerland.

Entry into Switzerland is allowed for travelers entering from a country deemed low-risk. Travelers from high-risk countries (including the U.S.) are allowed entry for essential reasons, or if the traveler can provide proof of vaccination. Learn more

Turkey
Entry is allowed to visitors from all countries in the world, and travelers must show proof of vaccination, proof of recent recovery from COVID-19, a negative PCR test within 72 hours of arrival, or a rapid antigen test within 48 hours of arrival.

All travelers are required to complete a passenger locator form prior to arriving in Turkey.

Ukraine
Travelers may enter Ukraine if they provide proof of vaccination, or a negative PCR test that was done no more than 72 hours before entry. Unvaccinated travelers must install an app to monitor self-isolation, and isolate for 10 days unless a negative test result is received within 72 hours of crossing the border. An insurance policy is required of all foreign visitors. Learn more

United Kingdom
Entry is allowed to visitors from all countries in the world. All travelers must fill out a passenger locator form.

Vaccinated travelers must book a COVID-19 test to be taken before the end of day 2 in the UK. Unvaccinated travelers must take a COVID-19 test in the 3 days before travel, book tests to be taken for day 2 and day 8 upon arrival, and quarantine for 10 full days.

If travelers have been in a red list country in the 10 days before arrival, entry is allowed only for residents and citizens of the UK. Learn more

While some bus and train operators have remained off the road since the beginning of the pandemic, the majority of carriers have resumed service. Due to a decreased demand for travel, however, most bus and train carriers that are currently running are operating on a limited schedule. You can see a full list of carriers that are currently running here.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, some bus and train carriers have implemented special change and cancellation policies, waiving fees and penalties, and allowing people more flexibility in planning their trips.

Keep in mind that the policies differ from carrier to carrier, and some companies continue to operate under their regular “no refunds or exchanges” policy. When you are booking a trip on Wanderu, we will inform you pre-checkout if the carrier has a special COVID-19 change and cancellation policy in place.

If you believe that you have been exposed to COVID-19, we recommend that you get tested as soon as possible. Please reach out to your doctor immediately and/or refer to this guide from the CDC to find a testing location near you. Please isolate yourself until you are able to get tested and until your receive your test results to avoid infecting other people.
