How to Get from D.C. to JFK International Airport & LaGuardia Airport
Step 1: Travel from D.C. to NYC

Step 2: Get from NYC to JFK or LaGuardia
Once you are in New York, you’ll be able to connect with the NYC Airporter shuttle that takes you directly to JFK International Airport. The same bus service also offers cheap tickets and easy transfers to LaGuardia Airport. All you have to do is be at Grand Central Station in time to catch your ride.
If you’ve used this service before, you may have taken your bus from Times Square or one of the other stops that NYC Airporter used to serve. However, the carrier now departs from Grand Central Terminal only. Grand Central is located at 89 E 42nd St, between Madison Ave and Park Ave.
So, to recap, your route is Washington D.C. to NYC, then make your way to Grand Central Terminal, and from there, it’s just a matter of boarding the NYC Airporter to get to either LaGuardia or JFK.

Wanderu Tip: Book your Greyhound, GoBuses, or Amtrak ticket all the way to Grand Central. That way, you won’t have far to go with all your luggage. Remember there might be delays caused by traffic, so book your tickets accordingly, leaving enough time.
NYC Airporter
Catching a plane from New York means using either JFK or LaGuardia Airports. Both of these airports are quite a way outside the city itself. Although the NYC Airporter service operates seven days a week, remember those operating times! Buses are frequent (20-30 minutes apart), but they only run from 11 AM to 7 PM. Kids under three ride for free.
Expect the following travel times:
Grand Central to JFK: 90 minutes, on average.
Grand Central to LaGuardia: 60 minutes, on average.
John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
JFK International Airport is the biggest international airport to serve travelers in North America. 59 million passengers passed through JFK in 2017 alone. It’s the 22nd busiest airport in the world, and it was originally built because the older LaGuardia Airport was unable to handle the growing volume of passenger traffic.
If the NYC Airporter isn’t your jam, you can instead book a private ride from anywhere in Manhattan to JFK for yourself or your small group.
LaGuardia Airport (LGA)
LaGuardia is the third-busiest airport in the New York City area, after JFK and Newark. The airport is located in Queens and serves 15 airlines to over 50 destinations. Many travelers choose to fly into LaGuardia because of its location so close to Manhattan.
Getting to LaGuardia is cheap and easy on the NYC Airporter bus, but if you’re partial to a bit more luxury, reserve a comfortable (and cancellable!) private ride from Manhattan to LaGuardia.
