Miami International Airport

Table of Contents

Picture yourself relaxing on a white sand beach, mojito in hand, listening to the waves of the Atlantic Ocean as the palm trees rustle in a light breeze. 🏖️ Sounds like a dream… or a day in Fort Lauderdale.

We hate to interrupt this sunny vignette, but sadly all vacations must end. So when you have to say goodbye to Fort Lauderdale’s expansive beaches, luxury hotels, and exciting Everglades attractions, you’ll want to know the easiest way to catch a plane out of paradise.

Fort Lauderdale does have its own airport, the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), which is about a 20-minute drive away from the city’s beaches. You can book a private transfer from FLL Airport to your destination in Fort Lauderdale for an affordable price because the airport is so close to town.

FLL is a smaller airport with fewer crowds but, at the same time, fewer direct flights and destinations than an airport like Miami’s. FLL serves major airlines, including Delta, JetBlue, and Southwest, but offers an average of only 350 departures each day.

Southern Florida’s primary airport is Miami International Airport (MIA), located about 30 miles south of downtown Fort Lauderdale. As a world-class destination, Miami is equipped with a large and extremely well-connected airport. With more than 1,000 daily flights and nearly 150 destinations, you’ll likely find a more convenient and affordable flight out of MIA.

Directions from Fort Lauderdale to Miami International Airport will include nearly 30 minutes (if not more) stuck on I-95 if you decide to drive yourself. To save some trouble and avoid travel stress, hop on a bus or train from Fort Lauderdale to Miami’s airport. This handy guide shares schedules, prices, and everything else you need to know for a relaxing ride as you leave dreamy Fort Lauderdale behind.

Fort Lauderdale to Miami International Airport by Bus

Maybe driving on Florida’s interstates during rush hour to catch a flight sounds like a nightmare (although, if this is your preferred route, we can help you find a great deal on a rental car). And if you skipped the rental car altogether, a $10 bus ticket is certainly more appealing than paying an arm and a leg for a 30-mile Uber.

Any way you slice it, getting to the Miami International Airport from Fort Lauderdale by bus is a quick, convenient, and affordable way to make it to your flight. With the many available buses and departure times, you can find easy transport without the headache of driving.

Make sure to leave plenty of time before your flight (up to 2 hours between the bus’ arrival at the airport and your flight’s departure) to allow for travel delays, finding your way in the airport, and getting through security.
