Brightline is a U.S. train carrier providing intercity rail service in Florida. Currently, the company operates passenger trains between Miami and West Palm Beach, with an additional stop at Fort Lauderdale in between. On a regular day, Brightline conducts 51 trips with one-way prices ranging from $17.00 to $28.00.
Launched in 2018, Brightline is the only privately owned and operated passenger railroad system in the United States. In late 2020, the carrier plans to rebrand as Virgin Trains USA and will continue to expand its service across the Florida peninsula and beyond.
What is the difference between Brightline and Virgin Trains USA?
Brightline is expected to be rebranded as Virgin Trains USA at some point in 2020 without any major changes to the current service. A specific date has not been announced yet and may have pushed back due to the coronavirus pandemic.
How much do Brightline train tickets cost?
A Brightline ticket will cost you between $17 and $28 depending on your origin point and final destination. Unlike other carriers, Brightline’s ticket prices don’t fluctuate based on time of travel or how far in advance you book your trip. In other words, you will spend the same amount whether you book a week in advance or an hour prior to departure.
How much luggage can you bring on a Brightline train?
Brightline allows you to bring one checked bag free of charge. For any additional bags, you will be charged a fee based on your travel class. Checked items may not weigh more than 50 lbs (22 kg) and their exterior dimensions must not exceed 33” x 22” x 15” (84 x 56 x 38 cm).
For bags weighing between 51 and 70 lbs, overweight luggage fees will apply. Brightline will not accept any luggage that weighs more than 70 lbs (31 kg). Please check your baggage at the station’s Guest Services counter at least 10 minutes prior to departure.
You may also bring up to two carry-on items. Each item may not weigh more than 40 lbs (18 kg) and its exterior dimensions must not exceed 28” x 22” x 14” (71 x 56 x 35 cm).
Do Brightline trains have WiFi?
Yes, Brightline offers WiFi on their trains. Although most trips with Brightline will have WiFi as advertised, some trains might not come equipped with WiFi and onboard WiFi can lose its connection in rural areas. We recommend you bring a book or download a movie just to play it safe. Brightline WiFi is generally best used for surfing the web, checking emails and chatting with friends; you shouldn’t count on the WiFi to binge watch your favorite show.
Are there power outlets or USB plugs on the train?
Brightline provides both regular power outlets and USB outlets on board their train trips. This helps ensure to ensure your electronics never run out of power. Your laptop can be juicing up while your phone stays charged as well. Of course, even with all these options, it’s possible that a Brightline vehicle might have an issue with its power supply, so to cover that situation bring a charged power bank.

Can you pick up will call tickets at the station?
No, Brightline does not offer will call tickets. You should purchase your tickets online and make sure you have everything you need to board before you arrive at the station.
Do you need an ID to get on the train?
Yes, Brightline requires you to present an ID to an agent to be allowed to board the train. Make sure you have identification issued by a government agency that meets the carrier’s requirements. Alternative IDs, such as a college ID, won’t work.
Are there bathrooms on Brightline trains?
Yes, there are bathrooms on Brightline trains. The bathrooms are pretty basic and include a toilet, toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Most bathrooms don’t have running water. As you will be using a bathroom on a moving vehicle, please use caution and hold on to a rail at all times.
Are meals or beverages available?
Brightline provides snacks to satisfy your hunger during your travels. Be sure to pack a credit card and some cash in case you get hungry. Don’t worry about being parched while traveling with Brightline as they offer a beverage service to make sure you stay hydrated. Though we always recommend bringing a reusable water bottle with you to make sure you have water within easy reach and help reduce unnecessary plastic waste.
Do you have to print your Brightline ticket?
Brightline does not require a printed ticket to board the train. Instead, an eTicket is sent to you by email when you make your reservation. You can use your smartphone to show this eTicket to the ticketing agent as you board.
Does Brightline offer any premium features like extra legroom or movies?
Brightline goes the extra distance to deliver premium features to its customers.
Do you find yourself squished in a regular seat or just love having extra room to sprawl out? Well you’re in luck as Brightline offers extra legroom seating. Since there is no standard of what extra legroom is, the extra space you get may vary between train lines, but getting extra is always good.
