The Silver Service is an Amtrak train line that runs from New York City to Miami, connecting the largest cities in the Mid-Atlantic region with key destinations in the South and various places across the Sunshine State.

Two trains, the Silver Meteor and Silver Star, collectively comprise the Silver Service. Both trains run the length of the coast from New York to Miami and vice versa. On average, the Silver Service carries more than 700,000 passengers per year, making it one of the most popular long-distance train routes in the U.S.

Spanning over 1,300 miles, it will take up to 28 hours to ride the entire train route from end to end. That’s why, trains on the Silver Service line come equipped with a variety of sleeper cars that travelers taking an overnight train can choose from.

Silver Meteor and Silver Star train tickets are available from as little as $4.50 for shorter trips and cost as much as $353.00 for longer trips and last-minute bookings. Cons: Staff was very unfriendly and unhelpful. I was stuck between two ladies who were on the phone for 5 hours. I was not allowed to find another seat! Why not? Tips: Bring headsets...Everybody is talking on the phone and some people are very loud.

Amtrak Silver Service Cancellation Policy

All Amtrak Silver Service tickets can be cancelled for a full refund within the first 24 hours after purchase. If more than 24 hours have passed, the cancellation policy and change fee structure for Amtrak bookings depend on the type of fare you purchased:

Saver Fare tickets: A 25% fee applies for any changes. If you cancel the trip, you will receive an eVoucher worth 75% of the original ticket price.

Value Fare tickets: No change fees and fully refundable up to 15 or more days before departure. If cancelled less than 14 days before departure, a 25% cancellation fee applies.

Flexible, Business and Premium Fare tickets: No change fees and fully refundable if cancelled or changed before departure.

Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable after the train has departed, so be sure to make your updates as soon as possible if your travel plans change.
