About Amtrak Crescent

The Crescent is an Amtrak passenger train service that runs from New York to New Orleans by way of Atlanta. The full journey from the Big Apple to the Big Easy takes approximately 30 hours, which means passengers have to spend the night aboard the train.

Stretching 1,377 miles, the Crescent is one of the longest train routes in America. It also passes through more states than any other Amtrak train: 12 states to be exact, plus the District of Columbia. Other major cities among the Crescent's 33 stops include Baltimore, MD, Charlotte, NC, Philadelphia, PA and Birmingham, AL. Crescent trains operate under numbers 19 and 20 and offer coach, business, and sleeper classes.

Carrying more than 250,000 passengers per year, the Amtrak Crescent is primarily used for long-distance train travel between the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast regions of the United States. For shorter trips between the northern stops, travelers are encouraged to use regional trains such as the Amtrak Northeast Regional instead. Depending on whether you’re going on the full train journey from NYC to NOLA or hopping on for an intermediate route, the price of the train ticket for the Crescent will range from $9.00 to $1,668.00.

As an overnight train, the Crescent offers a variety of amenities and accommodation options. In addition to regular coach class seats, Crescent trains come equipped with roomette and bedroom cars. There’s also a café car where you can enjoy freshly prepared meals and a variety of soft and alcoholic beverages. Like all Amtrak trains, the Crescent offers free WiFi, power outlets and extra legroom.

An official Amtrak partner since 2015, Wanderu allows you to search and find all Crescent train schedules, and book a cheap train ticket that fits your needs.
