About Deutsche Bahn ICE

Deutsche Bahn ICE trains are the fastest passenger services in Germany, reaching speeds of up to 200 mph as they travel between Berlin, Cologne, Paris, and Munich.

Deutsche Bahn ICE caters its services to long-distance travelers and those commuting on business so that passengers can expect excellent levels of comfort even in standard class. Seating is spacious with a good amount of legroom, while onboard facilities include complimentary WiFi, restrooms, and a restaurant car selling beverages, snacks, sandwiches, and hot meals.

Unlike the rest of the Deutsche Bahn network, ticket prices on Deutsche Bahn ICE services are not based on a per-kilometer rate but on specific station-to-station links. Since the cheapest fares sell out first, booking as far out as possible is best.

Luckily, Wanderu has been an official partner of Deutsche Bahn ICE since 2016, and we make it as easy as possible to find and book the cheapest train tickets. So choose your trip, compare prices, and get the best deal!

Berlin to Leipzig

Pros: train was first announced as 10 minutes late. Then 25. Then 30. Then 40. Then 35. Ended up close to an hour late, with no explanation. Unacceptable. Cons: Tell us what is going on. Tips: Don't expect an on time trip - both ways were delayed, one for close to an hour, the other only 12 minutes. But, still....

Stuttgart to Cologne

Pros: Beautiful place, a variety of cuisines from around the world, very friendly people who were always willing to assist and indulge in meaningful conversation. Cons: I paid different prices for two tickets which was a bit strange. The tickets were a bit pricey in my opinion. Tips: Overall I would recommend your service for its convenience and efficiency.

Deutsche Bahn ICE Train Guide & FAQs

Yes, Deutsche Bahn ICE offers WiFi on their trains. Although most trips with Deutsche Bahn ICE will have WiFi as advertised, some trains might not come equipped with WiFi and onboard WiFi can lose its connection in rural areas. We recommend you bring a book or download a movie just to play it safe. Deutsche Bahn ICE WiFi is generally best used for surfing the web, checking emails and chatting with friends; you shouldn’t count on the WiFi to binge watch your favorite show.

Yes, there are power outlets onboard Deutsche Bahn ICE trains. You can generally find one or two sockets per row of seats, so be a good traveller and check if your seat neighbor might want to charge up their devices as well. With the onboard power outlets, you can charge both a computer and USB devices with a USB power adapter that typically comes with most phones and tablets.

Since Deutsche Bahn ICE might sometimes use replacement train vehicles, not all trips are guaranteed to have power points. We recommend to bring a power bank to charge your phone for all trips over 2 hours, just in case.

On a typical day, Deutsche Bahn ICE has 26 scheduled train trips in total. However, the exact departure and arrival times vary depending on the day and route. The best way to find the exact schedule for your trip is to use the search tool on this page.

No, Deutsche Bahn ICE does not offer will call tickets. You should purchase your tickets online and make sure you have everything you need to board before you arrive at the station.

Yes, Deutsche Bahn ICE requires you to present an ID to an agent to be allowed to board the train. Make sure you have identification issued by a government agency that meets the carrier’s requirements. Alternative IDs, such as a college ID, won’t work.

No, there are no bathrooms available on Deutsche Bahn ICE trains. Though there are no bathrooms onboard, typically breaks are scheduled in the itinerary to allow passengers to use bathroom facilities along the way.

Deutsche Bahn ICE offers meal service during your trip with them. If you require a meal with special dietary restrictions, we suggest you contact Deutsche Bahn ICE customer service directly to see if one can be arranged to meet your needs.

Don’t worry about being parched while traveling with Deutsche Bahn ICE as they offer a beverage service to make sure you stay hydrated. Though we always recommend bringing a reusable water bottle with you to make sure you have water within easy reach and help reduce unnecessary plastic waste.

Deutsche Bahn ICE does not require a printed ticket to board the train. Instead, an eTicket is sent to you by email when you make your reservation. You can use your smartphone to show this eTicket to the ticketing agent as you board.

Deutsche Bahn ICE focuses on delivering a great travel experience at a low price and currently does not offer premium features like extra legroom or onboard entertainment. But these days, between your laptop, tablet, smartphone and e-reader, you’re the master of your own entertainment even on longer journeys.
