Pros: Incredible views on Amtrak and even a US Forest Service presentation on Wild life and history in the observation car for no extra charge. Cons: I think if there was a way you could shower without splurging on a private compartment , it could be nice. Even if they charged extra for it . Tips: Dining car entries are $20 -$40 and keep in mind if your seat is in the last car all the dining room spots Might be gone before you get a chance . Snack car good from 9 am till 11 pm but you will pay $5 for a Hebrew National hot dog and $2.50 Or more for a can of Pepsi so you might want to bring a lunch. Few station stops where you’re going to have time to buy soda and probably none where you’ll have time to buy hot food and get back on train. Smokers beware they no longer sell cigarettes on train or provide a smoking area other than when you get off the train at brief station stops so you’ll be lucky if you can smoke 4 cigarettes between Albuquerque & Chicago. On the other hand, if you’re trying to quit it’s good practice.
