About halfway between Winston-Salem and Durham in North Carolina, Burlington is a bustling city originally named "Company Shops" because of the railroad offices and shops that the North Carolina Railroad Company established at the site. Though a small city, Burlington's community is a charming place to explore with all of the amenities you need for a comfortable stay.

Next, learn about the War of the Regulation that occurred in North Carolina in 1771 by visiting the Alamance Battleground State Historic Site. If you're traveling with little ones, head to neighboring Graham to spend the day at the Children's Museum of Alamance County. The nearest major airport is Raleigh-Durham International Airport, about 45 minutes away from Burlington.
