About Amtrak Piedmont

Beginning its operation in 1995 in response to the growing popularity of Amtrak's Carolinian line, Amtrak Piedmont is an intercity rail service operating in North Carolina. The Piedmont connects Charlotte and Raleigh, while its sister train, Amtrak Carolinian, runs between Charlotte and New York City.

The Amtrak Piedmont runs three times daily from either direction. A full end-to-end trip takes a little over three hours, featuring several stops along the way. These stops include Cary, Durham, [Burlington], Greensboro, High Point, Sailsbury, and Kannapolis.

Each train is equipped to ensure comfortable and relaxing travel. Like most Amtrak trains, the Piedmont line offers a checked baggage service, WiFi connectivity, lavatories, and a cafe car to ensure that passengers don't go hungry onboard. In addition to that, Amtrak Piedmont offers both coach and business class seating options, along with carry-on bicycle accommodation.

Amtrak Piedmont is equally popular among regular commuters and travelers looking to visit the various attractions to which it provides access. This railroad allows convenient transport to many of North Carolina's most popular tourist spots, such as the Raleigh Convention Center, Boylan Bridge, the Museum of Durham History, and the International Civil Rights Center & Museum.

Since 2015, Amtrak Piedmont has been an official partner of Wanderu, allowing customers to find the best deals on all of its individual routes and services. And if you are an Amtrak Guest Rewards member, don’t forget to enter your unique number during checkout, so you can continue collecting points.
