Amtrak Cascades

Pros: Comfortable, no delays, some nice scenery, on time. Cons: There was one man yelling into his cell phone and I finally had to get up and tell him that he was yelling and that everyone in our car could hear his call and that it was disturbing me. He politely said OH and turned it down. Phew. Tips: Pay attention to your phone calls while traveling.

Pros: Train wasn't overly crowded. I enjoyed the food for purchase on the train. Cons: Train was 30 minutes late.. Which would not happen on the east coast lol. Tips: Don't make travel plans on a strict time schedule. My train was 30 minutes late arriving to Portland. I didn't mind because I gave myself extra time as a buffer. However I wouldn't recommend a tight schedule when booking because it seems this train is often delayed.

The train depot is in downtown Eugene, just north of 6th Avenue. The depot has indoor and outdoor seating, and there's a mix of local shops and restaurants, like the Morning Glory Cafe and the Black Wolf Supper Club, right across the street. If you have time to kill, you can explore Willamette and find coffee shops, dessert shops, and cafes nearby. Or swing by one of the vending machines in the depot on your way to your Amtrak train.
