Amtrak Northeast Regional

Pros: The conductor was outstanding - he helped us when we needed to disembark in Westerly, RI. We were in the last car and that car was not pulling onto the station. Also, the angle of the track and the train was almost impossible for two seniors to get our luggage off. Conductor helped us move forward before our arrival, and lifted the luggage off for us. Kudos to the gentleman, I wish I had gotten his name. Cons: A ramp waiting at the Westerly station for boarding and disembarking. Also, signage about where the business coach will be boarding in Westerly to Boston trip.

Amtrak Northeast Regional

Pros: the train enabled me to relax and read while saving gas money and wear and tear on my car. Cons: Trains more often. Tips: Don’t arrive too early, as Back Bay station has numerous people who appear to live at the entrance and are somewhat concerning.

City Information

Boston

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the country, but it is kept young and fresh with the help of over 150,000 students who flock to the city’s prestigious universities every year. Beantown’s many sights and activities celebrate American history, prolific sports teams, and New England seafood. So let's spill the tea (into the harbor, if you will):

Boston's Freedom Trail is the best way to see the city on foot and visit some of the most iconic landmarks of the American Revolution: from Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution to the Old North Church and Faneuil Hall. The Freedom Trail officially begins in Boston Common, the oldest public park in the U.S. and a beautiful spot for walking, picnicking, or ice skating in the winter. Foodies will love tasting the Italian cuisine in the North End and the modern eateries of South End, while sports fans can tour Fenway Park, and art lovers can explore the expansive Museum of Fine Arts.

From Boston, travelers can easily get to the beachy summer destination of Cape Cod, or surrounding states like New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island. With four main train stations and several bus stops in the city, as well as Boston Logan Airport (which, by the way, has some excellent airport food), Boston is a central hub for travel throughout New England and beyond.

Westerly

Westerly is famous for its gorgeous shorelines, and the beaches are just the beginning. In addition to local stores, fashionable pubs, and restaurants, Rhode Island's southernmost town has a lively downtown environment. The town enchanted Taylor Swift so much that she not only bought a house as a part-time residence but also wrote a song about it: The Last Great American Dynasty.

Give it a listen while strolling through Wilcox Park, with lovely scenery with an open meadow area surrounded by trees, a fish pond, monuments, and perennial gardens. The option to go for a trek nearby Napatree Point Conservation Area is also available. Then, finish your fun-filled day by getting a carload of friends and family and heading to the Misquamicut Drive-In for an outdoor movie.

The area's lodging options range from high-end luxury to eccentric, historic, and comfortable. Ocean House is one of only thirteen resorts in the world to receive triple 5-star certification, making it the best of the best. Perched high on the bluffs of Watch Hill and with a private beach and spa, it's hard to turn down Ocean House.

The Block Island State Airport, the Theodore Francis Green Airport in Providence, and the Westerly State Airport are all in Rhode Island, though not Westerly in particular. Amtrak, however, has trains right into the city coming from Boston, New York, Portland, New Haven, and Philadelphia.
