Amtrak Maple Leaf

Pros: Smooth ride. Cons: Toilets did not flush when I took train.

September 1, 2024- Visiting family

Amtrak Lake Shore Limited

Pros: Non stress travel. Left the car at home. Rest, read, walk around. Never have yo watch the road, traffic, etc. Cons: Sadly, the trip took almost 2 hours longer than our trip to Rochester? A layover at Albany was avoidable, because we were not notified about a connecting train that left Albany shortly after we arrived. Making that train south would have saved us 90 minutes, at least, maybe more! Tips: Ask questions.

MELODY

June 11, 2024- Couples trip

Amtrak Empire Service

Pros: The convenience and comfort of the train. Was easy to do. Our first time riding. Cons: Be able to adjust the airflow like AC on plain. Tips: Prepare for extra healthy snacks if you want that as an option to bring along as the cafe car was mostly sweets and microwaveable food. Also be aware that not every passenger is conscious of space and some straight up claim two seats and let other boarding passengers scramble for other seats. Don’t be afraid to ask to sit where there is opening if it suits you. Bring headset if you don’t want to listen to others conversation as again some people are not aware of their surroundings. We had three very obnoxious younger kids sitting next to and behind us who were vulgar and just simply out of control. Then another group in front of us taking up 6 seats four seats faced eachother and they used them to stretch out with feet up as other passengers scrambled to get other seats. Again not the fault of the railway but was shocked the conductor’s didn’t address it. Overall we loved it!! Oh and stops are quick!!

Pros: A great alternative to flying. Cons: Provide more detailed information about the exact process of transferring trains. Allow passengers who want to sit together some kind of seat reservation. Tips: Relax!
