Pros: I have never used a bus for long travel. This was my first time. I was prepared for something horrible. This was excellent! Driver was amazing and made everyone feel comfortable. The bus itself was much more roomy than I thought it would be. Very clean inside and out. I am now looking forward to many more bus based travels. Cons: One of my bus trips offered water. The other one didn’t. They were both 4 hour travels. I would have liked to see water offered during each trip. But if it’s not actually offered officially and we just got water during the one trip because the driver at that time was going out of his way to be nice, I can appreciate that too. Tips: Research the bus terminal location ahead of time for bigger stations. The website doesn’t offer much information on that and it takes a few minutes to find if it’s your first time. Luckily I arrived an hour early to South Station in Boston and was able to ask locals where the bus terminal was located.

City Information

Boston

Boston is one of the oldest cities in the country, but it is kept young and fresh with the help of over 150,000 students who flock to the city’s prestigious universities every year. Beantown’s many sights and activities celebrate American history, prolific sports teams, and New England seafood. So let's spill the tea (into the harbor, if you will):

Boston's Freedom Trail is the best way to see the city on foot and visit some of the most iconic landmarks of the American Revolution: from Bunker Hill and the USS Constitution to the Old North Church and Faneuil Hall. The Freedom Trail officially begins in Boston Common, the oldest public park in the U.S. and a beautiful spot for walking, picnicking, or ice skating in the winter. Foodies will love tasting the Italian cuisine in the North End and the modern eateries of South End, while sports fans can tour Fenway Park, and art lovers can explore the expansive Museum of Fine Arts.

From Boston, travelers can easily get to the beachy summer destination of Cape Cod, or surrounding states like New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island. With four main train stations and several bus stops in the city, as well as Boston Logan Airport (which, by the way, has some excellent airport food), Boston is a central hub for travel throughout New England and beyond.

Although Bangor is best known as the setting for many of Stephen King's novels, there is far more to the town than just horror. With a vibrant art scene, multiple museums, galleries, and an annual sidewalk art festival, Bangor is a delightful destination for a weekend getaway. In the winter, Bangor is also one of the best destinations for a snowy vacation.

Bangor first grew its economy through the lumber and shipbuilding industries. The city's rich lumber history is evident on almost every street, as wealthy "lumber barons" built decadent brick and wood mansions throughout the city. You can learn more about the industry's impact on Bangor by visiting The Maine Forest and Logging Museum just outside town.

If you're a Stephen King fan, be sure to book a city tour of some of the locations featured in his novels and films, and learn about how the area inspired his work. You can also stroll past Stephen King's own house (don't bother him for autographs, it's a private residence!) and take a stroll through the neighborhood to admire many other magnificent houses.

Getting to Bangor is simple. Bangor International Airport is served by many major airlines and offers nonstop and connecting flights from various U.S. cities. Greyhound Lines and Concord Coach Lines also offer bus services to other Maine destinations and cities throughout New England. In addition, Amtrak Thruway buses connect Bangor to the nationwide rail network.
