Amtrak Northeast Regional

Pros: I like train travel, the feeling of being on the move, seeing the countryside go by and parts of towns and cities I'd never encounter otherwise. I like the big windows and wide seats and the fact that most of the time no one else is in the seat next to me. Cons: The internet was really pretty terrible. For an 8-hour trip in this day and age that's pretty inexcusable and might easily be a deal breaker on VERY another occasion. The food in the café car isn't too bad for packaged microwaved fast food, but I really do miss the dining cars and real meals of the old days. Tips: In Coach et there early enough so you can pick your seat. Onl.y Business Class ones are reserved. I liked the Quiet Car, where you can't talk on a cell phone and conversation is supposed to be quiet. Less crowded and more peaceful. In Business Class, which I did on the way out, the difference wasn't really worth the extra money, unless it is a VERY crowded time. At least on the Regional Trains (Boston-DC and return), the even numbered rows had the widest views with no posts obstructing.
